Man didn't invent fire. He learned how to harness it and learn how to benefit from it, but fire was not invented.

The Wheel. Look how much needs the prinicple of the wheel to run. I'm sure some might claim the written language but if we didn't invent fire did we invent writing? Anyway I really believe with how much is based on the wheel it really is the best.

The microscope

Purely because it enabled scientists to discover germs, without which god only knows what we would be curing diseases with now. think how a lack of knowledge about the causes of diseases could effect our daily lives - eating food off dirty chopping boards because we don't understand it could make us ill, letting cuts be wrapped in dirty bandages, yes people suspected this in the past but they couldn't prove it until the microscope. The microscope has saved so many lives I personally believe it to be mankinds greatest invention.

Fire. Because man no longer had to live in the darkness. He could have hot food., hot water and warmth. He could use fire to fashion metals, and make weapons to hunt and protect himself. Fire kept wild animals at bay, and much more.

the spear (and how to use it)
Because it meant more food for the tribe and security from wild animals- hence the possibility of creating villages (as opposed to scattered groups in caves and trees). Villages meant the beginning of civilisation.
