An airspeed of 500mph pointed in the direction of your destination would be good.

An airspeed of 500mph pointed in the direction of the ground.. not so much.

Actually neither is important to the traveller. It is important to the pilots, whom the traveller depends on.
Correct direction along with the speed is important. Being in the wrong plack is not only inconcenient. It could be dangerous.
