Hamsters should have a simple diet of hamster food, fresh fruits, and fresh vegetables. Be sure to purchase a quality food that includes small grains such as oats and barley, dried vegetables, peanuts, safflower seeds, and a minimum of sunflower seeds. Do NOT use bird food. Buy food in small quantities so it stays fresh; your hamster will eat only about 1 tablespoon of food per day. Good hamster food is the staple of a healthy diet. Monitor your hamster to make sure he eats all the ingredients in his food, not selected ingredients only.
Supplement your hamster's food daily with small amounts of fresh vegetables - carrots, cabbage, celery, cauliflower, and broccoli are all great choices. Give fresh fruits as treats, and only in very small amounts. Also, give a handful of timothy hay 2-3 times a week. Avoid foods such as raw beans, potato eyes, iceberg lettuce, citrus fruits, green potatoes, tomatoes, garlic, chocolate, and sugary or salty foods.
Hamster treats are a wonderful addition to your pet's diet, but give them sparingly.
A vitamin supplement will ensure that your hamster receives all the necessary vitamins and minerals. This is especially important if your hamster is a finicky eater.
Bits of fresh veggies and fruits, like carrots, broccoli, bananas and apples.
Hamsters love to carry food in their cheeks, which are actually big, roomy pouches. Then they store it in the corners of their cage for a late-night snack. Just make sure to remove any stale food when cleaning the cage.
Both root and green vegetables should be given, always raw and washed well. Some vegetables that are good for your hammy are:
broccoli
turnips
carrots
chicory
spinach
cauliflower (outside leaves and stalk)
parsley
*cabbage
*Brussels sprouts
*lettuce (not iceberg lettuce)
* = small amounts only
Some fruits you can give are grapes, apple, blueberries, blackberries, raspberries , melon, plum, banana, strawberries, and others.
***Dont feed your hamster citrus fruits. The acid is too much for your hamster.***

Hamsters, rabbits, guinea pigs, mice and similar rodents like these veggies (make sure they are washed and have no chemicals)
fresh carrots
lettuce
celery
sliced apple
melon (not too much)
small peices of cucumber
They will also eat small nuts, seeds, and berries.
As well as these foods (which sould make up of about 50% of their diet) they should eat hard comercial pellet mixes from pet stores. (do NOT buy cheap brands of dry food!)

You can buy prepacked food from pet stores also treats. They love chopped up fresh fruit and veg such as apples and carrots.
