Good question. I find that it is both lyrics and melody in some cases. Yet at times, when listening to some old tunes, I find that I don't know all the words, but the melody is actually what stuck in my mind. Of course it takes both to bring it all together. I have heard some great accapello though, voices coming together without music, sounding as if there were music behind it because it sounds so nice together.

My interest is catched first by the melody, and then I listen to the lyrics, cause' I think that a melody can say much more than words.
See you!

Melodies really make a song what it is. Some are quite memorable. For me, the Pink Panther, Life is a Highway, Route 66, and ABBA are very memorable tunes.

For me it's the melody. I don't even know most of the words in a song that I like but I can hum the tune.

It really depends on who is doin the song..... I play guitar so if it's really good work then the melody but I like sigers who scream like Maynard form Tool so that might catch my attention to.
