A small rural village in Hungary where my mom was born. It was the first time she had been back for decades. Being with her and seeing the 250 year old church that was still being used and the farm where she was born and lived until they had to leave everything behind because of the war is something I'll never forget. Knowing all she went through and seeing all that was taken from her makes me realize what an inspiring person she is not to have let it ruin her.

Santorini island in Greece. It looks just like the postcards. You can travel across the whole island in 1 day using a scooter in time to watch the sunset with the locals in Thira (or Fira) -one of the towns there. The top of the island is quite flat and grassy, dotted with the occational house (beautiful white greek style), crumbled wall, and donkeys and feel completely alone and at peace in the warm air - not a single person to be seen.
The towns are a glorious white, dropping off the side of the cliffs to the ocean, filled with tourist shops, art/jewelry stores...so lively and colourful.
Lower on the island you'll find small roads, cobbled streets filled with open entry cafes with seats outside and pirated movies playing on large screens as you sip coctails. Travellers go there and party all night long. You'll also find camp grounds, hotels, and beautiful beaches. There is a red, white, and black beach - the sand all coloured to suit their names.
Why did it resonate with me? It's the most beautiful and laid back place that I have ever been, and the landscape is so dramatically different from what I am used to. It's hard to explain. It's one of the few times when I actually felt at peace. I just wish that I had more time to explore the mainland, and the many very different sites that there are to offer there (Meteora looks amazing).

Currently, the most inspiring place I have visited is Hickory Nut Gorge. I am a landscape painter and every time I go there, it awakens my senses. Different times of day reward me with so many painting opportunities. I love the way the light plays off the huge boulders and river water. It is a feast for the eyes!

The Rosicrucian Museum in San Jose, California. It resonated precisely because they brought together many different symbol systems, starting with ancient Egypt. They seem to be aware that inspiration and enlightenment comes in many forms, many symbols, many concepts. I learned more than I had ever learned in a museum before, but I also felt more. The very objects, some incredibly ancient, seem to vibrate and hum with living truth.

On the highway between Kenai and Homer, Alaska.
It resonated with me because it looked just like the Emerald Fields in the Oz movie.

Giza Pyramids. Cairo, Egypt.
Its got the history and age on most of the planet (excepting a few) and if you study the culture that created those things (and math and writing if you believe Plato) well, you can't help but be inspired. Niagara Falls and all its "power" has nothing on the silent awe that Giza produces.

Well, I visited a refuge camp in Belgrade,Serbia. Although the wars in Croatia, Bosnia, and Kosovo&Metohija are over, people are still trying to get a grip of their lives. Some of them had great positions in life: familiy, friends, good homes, cars, they went abroad........,and suddenly it changed. They had no say about it, they were forced to actually run for their lives and the lives of those they love. And they found themselves far from home, with no friends, no many, many of them loosing members of their family...They came to a place that had no means to support them in any way, live with no warm water in bathrooms (bathroom is a really disputable term in this case), have one bulb in a room, have no job, and yet, they fight. They are trying to bild their lives all over again, they`re not discouraged by the fact that in some cases they lost 10 years. They laugh, they sing, cry, work, send their children to school... They`re trying their very best not to be bitter... And ones who gave up, who gave to resentment, You can see are lost... So, I suppose there are incredible landscapes You can see (and feel), the deeps of Your mind and soul You can visit, but this sort of expirience makes You think of the way You live, how You use Your chances, what do You do, how do You feel `bout other people... Well, it makes You turn to Yourself, but prevents You from forgeting others
