why do dark colors absorb heat more than light colors?

i am doing a project and i can't find any imformation please please help me.

Things are dark colored because they absorb all colors of light rather than reflect them. This absortive capacity may extend from orange to red into infrared. At that point, the object is absorbing heat energy (which is radiated as infrared).

White reflects the light. Therefore it's cooler.
