My fiance and I are coming from central Michigan and our budget for travel and lodging together is $400. Where can we go and what can we do?

remember we are coming from MICHIGAN and we will be taking this vacation in febuary or march. Camping is out of the question unless we wanted to die of hypothermia

ok for those who think camping is the best idea...they obviously have never been to michigan... temps through march are in the 30's-40's and we get snow til april. Our goal here is to get away from the snow and cold.

I'm originally from Michigan and often took trips on a tight budget, so I thought I might be able to help.

Once place I've always enjoyed going to is Traverse City. I usually stay at a place called "Pointes North Inn". All rooms face the beach and are romantic suites with jacuzzi tubs and balconies. When we've been there, we've been able to get a package deal, so that it's cheaper and usually includes a gift certifcate for dinner ($25 I think) and sometimes even a bottle of champagne. I think the average price is about $80-90/night.

When we've been there, we've driven out to the lighthouses on either side of Traverse Bay, there are great wineries in that region, and we've also spent some time at the casinos that are nearby. Their tourism website is full of ideas, and most are cheap or free...

I would highly recommend going there...It's romantic and reasonably priced this time of year!! Hope that helps!!

Are you kidding? Try camping in your backyard. The average hotel room costs $100 a night. That's before your gas or airfare, meals ($60-$100 a day for two), drinks (if any) and any activities to do when you get their. Save your money. A decent cheap vacation for a long weekend starts at about $1000 per person.
