I know it's not that far outside the US, but you could go to Vancouver or Toronto, Canada. It's reasonably priced to get there, and there are plenty of attractions.
You can also sometimes get a great package deal to some place like Puerto Vallarta or Cancun, but minimum you are probably looking at $700/pp for a few days.
The other option is to really get slummy in Europe. Buy the cheapest airfare you can find into any city that is near the Eurotrain. Buy a pass and sleep on the train or in hostels, and just visit as many cities as you can before your time runs out.

Cancun is great, if you love beaches and nightlife. There are
several all-inclusive resorts that are bargains. The biggest
