i currently have an orange phone which i want to unlock but when i called them for the unlocking code they told me it would cost me £20!! Anyway is there any way to do it my self or if i go to one of thoes shops you see that say all phones unlocking for £5 will it be okay.. what will they do?

no its my phone but i want to change to T-mobile because they now have better texting rates than orange

It depends on what type of handset you have. If your phone is a 3g phone then i would strongly advice you to pay the £20 that orange have quoted the reason for that is because at present only the network provider can unlock it. If its a conventional phone then by all means take down the shop that only costs £5. I done that a few times and havent had any problems.

i had loads of phones unlocked from shops for ten pound or less and never had a problem, they just plug in a lead and disable the code in the phone,, the same code you woulde pay orange 20 pound for

I'd go to a shop on online to do it.
Don't know exact process but they use the imei number to unlock the phone.

there is some websites that you can get it unlocked for free search the web and see what you can find. or there is shops that you can get it down for £10 or less

Let me see if I understand your question. You locked your cell phone,and don't know your lock code?

Or,did you steal someone else's phone,and don't know their lock code?
