I'm a liberal who detests the Bush administration. I also think fundamentalist Islam (or any fundamentalist religion, for that matter) is dangerous.

That being said, how do we combat the spread of fundamentalist Islam without undermining our civil liberties? How do we respect and protect the First Amendment without undermining it? Finally, how do we combat fundamentalist Islam without using tactics that make it more powerful and dangerous (like the Bush administration is currently doing in Iraq).

Opinions or book recommendations are welcome. Garbage published by Regnery or opinions by right-wing mouth breathers are not.

Maybe the first thing you need to do is examine yourself for the reason you "detest" the Bush Administration. Is it because all of the other liberal lemmings say that they do? is it because the economy is booming? is is because the deficit is shrinking? Is it because unemployment is lower? Is it because you personally are paying less of your income towards taxes?

Or could it be that you are just another one of the liberal lemmings who can't get over the fact that Gore lost in 2000, and Kerry lost in 2004? Are you angry because a majority of the Country were just so sick of the humiliations heaped on us by Bill Clinton's inattention to business that they couldn't vote for two candidates who would have been just as bad, if not worse?

Maybe the thing is that, in your heart of hearts, you know that President Bush has been good for the country but your PRIDE won't let you acknowledge at because you call yourself a liberal, but you're not that dumb.

When Roosevelt & Truman were US presidents, there was no US terror, because they were pro Serb, not friends of Islamic fundamentalists. Iraq was a relatively moderate Islamic country before the occupation. But not Islamic fundamentalists try to take over by killing people. If these thing are corrected, it would undermine fundamentalist Islamic terror.

I think America has taken its eyes so far off the ball that fighting the war on terror almost a lost cause. We had the world in back of us after 911. We had worldwide support when we went into Afghanistan. Going into Iraq for what turned out to not be related to the war on terror at all ended up losing all of our support we had worldwide. By going into Iraq all we have done is taken our enemies and mulitiplied them by 1000. Invading Iraq was the best thing ever for Osama and Al Qaeda, anyone who thinks that hurt them is kidding themselves. Hell, its a documented fact Osama detested Saddam, he considered Saddam a infidel just as he does Americans.

I can respect people who don't like Bush but the blind hate to everything he is doing to combat terrorist is gone too far.

We can fight Muslim terrorism by facing them head on and calling what is evil.

Bush didn't fly the planes into the WTC.

Yet "the religion of peace" did.

We have gone overboard try to accomendate them into our society.

The Brits have gone to turn toilets.

Yet the Muslims haven't begun to show the reverse.

After 9/11 the number of hate crimes against Muslims didn't go up.

On the flip side a Christian can't carry their Bible into their country.

We can be accepting but I do thing it is time we have two way conversation and two showing of respect.

If not we are doomed.

Also we do have to meet force with force that the radical Muslim understands.

There is no simple answer but we have to put away our differences and work on solving the problem.

i agree w/you about bush in iraq, but liberals need to stop calling any investigation of muslims a civil rights violation. also, you need to recognize that fundamentalist islam is currently much more danerous than the x-tian fundamentalism that liberals seem to be at odds with so much in america. we need to pay lip service to not "racial profiling", and then do it anyway. "eternal vigilance is the price of liberty." -- thomas jefferson. "the first ammendment is not a suicide pact." judge judy (at least she's the first one i heard say it.)
