Like other B-vitamins, biotin participates in a wide variety of enzymatic reactions (as a cofactor). In addition to its role in metabolism of fats, proteins and carbohydrates, it is also needed to convert folic acid into the active form used by the body. As such, many claims can be made for biotin simply based on its role as a cofactor. The major benefit of biotin as a dietary supplement, however, is in strengthening hair and nails. In this role, biotin helps form and maintain chemical structures known as "crosslinks" within the main protein found in hair and nails (keratin). Maintenance of these crosslinks helps to promote hair and nail strength.

Yes, I used them for two months.
Biotin is a "B Vitamin".
It was suggested to me for hair problems. I decided to give it a try. These supplements were expensive and may have made my hair grow slightly faster but it did not help with thinning hair. So if something is wrong with the hair folicle, it wont be much help.

Biotin is usually suggested for those who have hair problems while under stress. Stress depleates all the "B" vitamins including biotin. But there are so many reasons for hair loss that just taking vitamins will not help. But if you are going to take it for faster growth, shinier hair, and stronger hair it has to help. Biotin is needed to the health of hair, skin, and nails. You can get biotin from your food if you eat enough whole grains.

The main reason I stopped the biotin supplements is the huge size of the capsules. They were hard to swollow and very hard to digest. The thick rubbery capsule gave me indigestion. So try to find smaller ones even though you have to take them more often. It will be worth it.
Hope this helps

I take NOW Biotin in 1,000 mg capsules. These are really tiny and easy to swallow, and at my health food store, the price was $5.99 USD. I don't think that is too expensive for what I get out of them. I only take 1 a day, but you must know that biotin is just one of essential nutrients for good body condition. 1,000 mg is probably a little high, but I do have a lot of stress to contend with. Plus, the best the part is that my hair has stopped falling out at the fast rate it was doing. I could take it every other day and probably still have the same results. Do you know that b vitamins are stored in the liver?
I'm satisfied with my biotin.

So..
Millions of people all over the world are affected by hair loss, and it's not only the males that suffer this condition as even females are affected by this problem. What's sad is that many of the individuals affected by such a condition end up just accepting what is happening to their hair due to lack of information or options.

Sure I do. It's a vitamin and most multi-vitamins or B-complexes don't contain enough (about 33% RDA on average.) I take 1-2 tablets a day.

You should make sure that you are eating plenty of natural sources of B vitamins too.

Most B vitamins are synergystic - i.e. more that you take of one the more you need of another, so it is better to take them as B complex and of course, through food.

Raw eggs prevent its absorption - so easy on the mayo!

natural sources: nuts, fruits, brewers yeast, beef liver, egg yolk, milk, kidney, brown rice.
