"Energy can neither be created nor destroyed" - Einstein

Therefore, some form of energy must have existed for an eternal beginning... Eternal... Think about that for just a minute before reading on.

Now that we've concluded that Eternity exists... That time had no beginning... we have to conclude that the potential for energy to convert matter is no greater today, than it was a billion, billion, billion years ago.

The 2nd Law of thermodynamics basically states that any matter, given enough time, will eventually degrade to pure carbon.

Without intelligent design, all would have been carbon "by now". In fact, there would be no "by now" because it all would have already happened... and you wouldn't be reading this right now.

Therefore the existence of our current reality justifies some form of Divine intervention... Or at least according to Einstein it does.

Why is that I don't believe you'll select my answer as the best answer? heh heh... Maybe you're already set in your opinion and you're not actually asking this question for an answer...

I think from time immemorial, humans have had a huge problem with questions they can't answer. Many of those questions revolve around "how did I get here"? and "why are these bad things happening to me?" People have found it psychologically necessary to have SOME kind of an explanation of why the things that happen to us, happen, good or bad, and what happens to us when we leave this world. Early priests (who didn't know the answers to these questions either) I believe originated the whole concept of "Mysterious invisible ,superbeings" (gods) who meted out rewards and punishments to humans who either pleased, or angered them. Later, of course, somebody introduced the notion of there being just one huge, all-powerful, all-knowledgeable God-being, and it didn't matter how lousy your life was, as long as you just believed in this being and obeyed (according to the priests) what this superbeing wanted you to do, there was a wonderful reward waiting for you in an afterlife. And conversely, o f course, if you disobeyed, or did not believe, you were punished with a most terrible and never-ending afterlife in a place of torment and agony.
All this has been believed from generation to generation for thousands of years. But I think today, people are getting the feeling that this is all too extreme. The rules and regulations that this God wants us to meet are so rigid, that it seems almost impossible in today;s world to live up to them. But such people have been conditioned from childhood to believe in this Superbeing, and that belief is hardwired into place now;. One possible way to resolve this dilemma, as opposed to totally rejecting the God-belief altogether, is to consider the idea that all this - the earth, everything in it, the whirling planets, the whole cosmos - is the work of "intelligent design" (meaning that there still has to be an "intelligent designer" (god). I think the idea of introducing this new concept is to take the accent off all this reward/ horrendous punishment thinking, and put it more on the belief of an Intelligent Being who has everything under control, designed and made everything, and on whom we can rely to "make everything come out right in the end"
I think it might prove to be a "stepping stone" if you will, from the old position of "God watches us, tests us, rewards or punishes us" to "We don't honestly KNOW the answers to these old questions, but we can still be comforted in the belief that there HAS to be "an intelligent designer" who does know all the answers, and has everything under control so we don't have to despair or panic".
Your question doesn't make it clear whether you believe in the original concept of the all-powerful punishing/rewarding "God" who "zipped" everything into existence in six days - or the absolute non-believer (atheist). But when it comes to "why do people still insist on intelligent design" well, that concept has only just recently been introduced. It hasn't been around that long that we can really talk about why do they "still" believe it. But those who have taken to the idea, clearly feel it has merit, just as you place merit on what you claim is "all the proof out there" even though, again, you don't make it clear proof of what? That there IS a God or that there isn't?
It's going to be interesting how others respond to your question.

Remember that just because something is taught in a public school doesn't mean it is "truth". Go back and read JT's answer! He's right on the money!!! Evolution seems so intriguing and so true but it doesn't account for other things such as what JT brought up which is the 1st and 2nd laws of thermodynamics. Note that evolution is a theory whereas the 2 laws of thermodynamics are just that "LAWS". They are nonchanging. Also the missing link has never been found nor will it ever be found simply because it doesn't exhist. I encourage you to take a course in Anatomy and Physiology. In that course you will understand that every part of the human body serves a purpose. Purpose is not determined by evolution or the people but it is determined by the only one who can determine it who is GOD!!! Please don't accept as fact the things that are not facts. Please base your thoughts on things that are considered fact or law and not on those things that are theory.

Because in this day and age, there is more proof pointing towards Creationism. Evolution is more of a religion, than Christianity.

wow... i certainly didn't expect to find an answer dumber than JT's response, but you proved me wrong JDOG... :) 2nd law of thermodynamics states that all matter decay into carbon? hahaha... where did you get your physics phd?
