I have had my desk top fpr 5 years and have upgraded the memory to 1 G and am running Windows XP but I need to upgrade my hard drive. I currently have a 40G and am going to buy a 300G but then what? How do I transfer all the stuff off my old hard drive to the new one?

A couple of ways. If you have an extra slot, put the old one in a s a slave drive and once the new one is in and you get booted up just copy everything from the old one. another way is use Nortons Ghost or some other disk mirroring program to mirror your old hard drive to CDs and then load them onto the new one once it is installed.

I would simply install the new one as the slave and move just the things i wanted the the new drive. Leave windows on the original.

ur Mainboard is so old and i think it would brust if u use mre than 180GB HDD. check it first.
then u can transfer ur data by setting ur old HDD as slave.
