To those of you who have seen The Departed, do you think Jack Nicholson and Leonardo Dicaprio should have been nominated for an Oscar for the movie and and got snubbed/overlooked?
I saw the movie last night and what an incredible movie it was! I am so impressed and I hope Scorcese finally gets his Oscar.
I am just flabbergasted that neither Dicaprio or Nicholson got nominated for their roles!!! :( I mean, I adore Mark Wahlberg and he was great in the movie (one of his best roles to date), but an Oscar nod for him and not for anyone else in the movie?? I'm finding that hard to take here!

I think people are "tired" of jack and Leo (which is a shame, as there was some powerful acting there)

I think Jack Nicholson and Leonardo Dicaprio were awesome in The Departed. Both of them really deserved nominations. But Mark was great in the movie and deserved the nod as well. I suppose Leo wasn't nominated because he got a nomination for Blood Diamond.

I think Leo would have gotten one for Departed if he hadn't been nominated for Blood Diamond. The Academy likes to be "fair" about that type of stuff. "Oh, you're not going to suck up to us and agree with everything we say? Then you probably shouldn't get an Oscar." I don't think Nicholson should have gotten an Oscar nod. While he did a wonderful job, compared to some of these other roles, his performance just didn't stand up. I am actually surprised at Mark Whalberg's nomination, but I can see why.
Anyway, I really hope Departed gets everything it's nominated for. They deserve it. Easily the most amazing movie I'd seen in a long time.

I was really hoping at least DiCaprio got a nomination. He was good in Blood Diamond, but I think the role in departed was far better. I think Mark Wahlberg was good, but he wasn't in much of the movie to get a nomination. I loved the character he played, but didn't even consider him being the only acting nomination. I really hope Martin Scorecese wins. He deserved it a long time ago, but The Departed was my favorite movie of 2006 and I hope he gets it.

I agree with you fully both leonardo and jack played outstanding roles and mark wasn't even in the movie as much as they were. The thing is though, that becasue he had upper hand in the end probably gave the people at the oscars a reason to nominate him for that but all in all leonardo and jack were really hot on that movie.
P.S people this is a good movie to watch really!!!!

I absolutely agree - Leonardo was brilliant and Nicholson is always a legend

Ask me next week when we get "The Departed" in on video for advanced viewing (it's scheduled to be released on DVD February 13, 2007).
