Do bala sharks get along with tiger barbs in the same tank or is that not a good idea?

That actually would be a perfect combo. Both are "schooling" fish, and therefore require groups(10+ barbs/6+ balas). Just remember Balas get very BIG.

They will get along together ok as long as there are enough tiger barbs. A group of 6 or so is best. Remember that the bala will get very large and out grow a tank under about 100 gallons.

they should be fine. I had a bala and 4 tiger barbs in the same tank and they lived together fine. The barbs would pick on him every know and then but he would do the same so it evened out,
