Ok so I need your opinion:
I want to start working as a singer but before I start doing jobs that will actually get me money I want to volunteer around town doing charity jobs. The only one I can think of though is a old people's home, which is ok but Ive preformed there before and they tend to be crabby and mean sometimes. So what are some other places I could perform?

Veteran's homes are good. I found that even though the people there are older and usually sick, they appreciate something different in their recreation room. Don't give up on the old folks. They may be crabby, but they have family that they'll talk to about you if you do a good job. Some of the "assisted living" places aren't as bad as rest homes.

Try coffee houses and small restaurants. Sometimes they let performers set up on weekends and/or evenings for added ambiance, and you get exposure and tips. Good luck.

The one thing you have to remember as a Singer is that singing is about the love of singing, and if you are truly a singer at heart, it won't matter if you sing to your mirror or to a room full of crabby senior citizens.

So ask around, see if there are any events (parties, weddings, nursing homes, children's ward in a hospital, etc) where you can go to entertain and make people feel just a little better about life. :)

Are in in choir or chorus at school? If so then good. Try to improve as much as you can. PRACTICE EVERYDAY! That is the most important thing! You can probably go to nursing homes, probably elementary schools and middle school in your city. Talk to your music teacher he can probably give you some ideas about voice lessons and places around the city to perform.

p.s. How do you do that music note thingy in your name??? I really want to know.

make a tape and send it to some djs dont worry you will find out quick if you have talent.just never pay anyone to make a cd.if they think they can make money off you you will get a contract.just keep trying for 1 year and if you are turned down by about 30 in a row either take lessons and improve or move on and make baskets and sell them.

i can only suggest going to a college campus and singing where they let various bands play. it could grab you a few fans. talk to the girlscouts and see if they have any charity events comming up in your area if your music is pc enough. they might even create an event were you can play for the girls and show them that women can do anything even write music and sing.
