My son cooked Easy Mac-n-Cheese w/o water. Luckily, there was no fire, just acrid black smoke. I cleaned the microwave oven with hot water and then heated up some water w/ lemon juice for a couple of minutes and left it in to steam the odor out to no avail......HELP!

Wash down the microwave with baking soda and vinegar on the sponge, it will foam. Don't forget the door gaskets. Rinse with plain water......OK, lemon juice added won't hurt. Actually any household cleaner will work fine, just rinse well afterwards.

Also, look for the vents where the air comes out......maybe around back? Would be nice if you could get inside, but don't even think about it! Just wipe those down and maybe a Qtip run along the edges.

Now put some cinnamon or other sweet smelling stuff in the water and boil it like you did the lemon juice. Lemon juice only deordorizes what it touches.

Some plastics tend to absorb odors, so I'd first try a good grease cutting detergent like Dawn in water, then applying a semi thick paste of baking soda onto all nonremovable parts and allow this to dry at least 12 hours. Scrap it off with a plastic spatula and use warm water to wipe out the remainder. Another odor absorbing agent is activated carbon or charcoal. You can find it granulated where ever they sell aquarium supplies. Place about a half inch in a broad dish inbetween uses and it will eventually absorb any odors.

Well, just keep the microwave doors open, and after a while clean it again and still leave the doors open.In case you use it still keep the doors open after use and in a few days you might not smell so much.

if you buy some sterilizing solution like Milton ,or any other product for sterilizing baby´s drinking bottles that should get rid of the smell plus clean the Microwave ( remember to switch off from socket)
