I would be amazed if the gears were interchangable. Ive never tried doing it myself, but I seriously doubt it. Maybe ask at DodgeForum.com, as there are a bunch of guys there who know a TON about that era of the Ram.

the most glaring answer is that the 9-inch Ford has 3 bearings to help the pinion shaft. there is really a small caged touching on the ring equipment area of the pinion. The pinion is decrease on the ring equipment's centerline than a 12-Bolt and this suggests the Ford takes type of three% extra means to reveal. Ford realized this in putting the 8.8" in Fox-body Mustangs. The Ford has a much better load-bearing section on the gears surfaces. both may be outfitted to take equivalent quantities of means, it merely takes extra intense priced products to do it with a 12-bolt than a 9-inch. yet an extra reason should be the detachable 0.33 member on the Ford. Having re-geared my Mustang's 8.8 contained in the automobile, and outfitted my dragster's 9-inch on a bench; i will allow you to already know...the 9-inch is infinitely extra available for equipment swaps.
