The check engine light has been going on especially when the weather is very cold.

I can't tell you what needs repaired, but when the check engine light comes on the computer stores a fault code. this fault code can be read. the fault code will tell what the computer see as a problem. some auto parts store can read these fault code and at no charge. this will give you a better idea of what is wrong.

I would first recommend calling around and finding a shop that will check the CEL for free. Many parts store chains will do it for free.

As for the tune up, I would recommend changing the plugs, wires, distributor components, and before doing those things, run a three step combustion system cleaner.

If it drives ok, keep going until summer. If the problem persists, have it checked then.
