Ok when it's super cold outside my Saturn Ion doesn't like to start. When I first try it doesn't do anything....all the electronic stuff comes on so I know it's not the battery. If I give it a few mintues it will start and then quit. So I give it another 5 - 10 minutes and then it finally starts. Any ideas what is wrong? I have to bring it in to Saturn on Monday and just want to get an idea on what they might tell me. Only serious answers please all others will be reported.

the problem you are having is the Ignition switch/passlock.
The Dealer should cover that for you, it is a known issue.
Contact a saturn dealer. I have replaced MANY of those.
Once its replaced, they (dealer) needs to reprogram the BCM(body control module) to accept the new ignition switch/passlock.

good luck,

Kevin

i own a repair shop, and their probably going to tell you it basically needs a good tune up,and maybe a new sensor or something on it ,also if your battery is a little weak, and its real cold out,it takes all of the energy it can give out to turn the engine over, and in some cases will rob the ignition system of much needed energy for the car to start, some battery's wont perform well when its really cold out,but once i starts it should stay running,i don't think its going to cost you a whole lot to get it repaired though, good luck i hope this help,s.

I artwork at a Saturn broking service and that i understand precisely what's faulty which includes your automobile. The ignition change needs to get replaced by using the indisputable fact that is causing the passlock (protection) gadget to imagine the motorcar is being stolen and shuts the starter off. The area is low priced, decrease than $50 i imagine, and the difficult artwork will run round $one hundred. in case you do it your self there are some issues to concentrate of, yet bodily replacing the change is worry-free. Its getting the passlock gadget to study the recent sensor contained in the change that could be a situation.

When it does not start is the engine turning over? If not it's probably a bad starter or connection at the battery. If it is cranking it could be a bad coolant temperature sensor, a very common problem on Saturns.

I had that happen to me before many times and the battery always had to be replaced. Extremely cold air affects older or defective batteries so that they are unable to provide enough power to start a car.

Depending on where you are, places like wal-mart auto center will often do a quick test on your battery - and even replace it for you (if needed), or adjust the connections (if needed) within one hour, for less than $100.00.

What year is it, and do you live somewhere that is VERY cold? When the battery went bad in my car, the electrical items all worked fine, but it still would not start.

When it doesnt start, what does it do? Click? Nothing at all?
