I am looking at graduate programs for genetic studies.. most are PHD but I have found some MS genetic programs offered... I was a nurse.. then went back to school.. .and finished my BS Biology major and chemistry minor.... was going to go straight to medical school.. but now due to how much i liked my undergraduate research ... I am considering... graduate studies in genetics... or possibly immune, path, micro... LOL.. cellular bio..... still confused... LOVE the small stuff... did a lot of work with DNA sequencing.. using RAPD and RFLPs... GOOD LUCK...

I am a doctor training to become a surgeon. You don't need to be the smartest person in the world. You have to work hard and be dedicated to your profession. You can't just barely study for tests to succeed. Med school is competitive and residency programs are competitive as well. You MUST have good grades, GPA and MCAT scores. College is fun, but you have to stay focused and spend time studying when your friends are out partying. It's not a walk in the park, but it is the most rewarding job on the planet. So, in the end, it's worth it. You just have to make the sacrifice.

Dont think of it as much in terms of "do i have to" but "who will hire me without"... if you do not have a phd places most likely are not going to hire you and unlelss you can afford millions of dollars worth of computer and other equpitment you cant do research on you own. work hard, get the degree, live comfortably.

Yes, it is a part of your curriculum to study that and also other subjects. How much are you going to use it in real life, just a little.
