the Boers war from 1899 till 1902
the British empire was after the goldmines in Transvaal and vrij staat Oranje the ex Dutch Boer republics.
Of course the Boers weren't very happy with this and a war was started to defend there land
In this war the Boers who where excellent gun men give the army of the empire some bloody lessons ( use of trenches, camouflage etc. ) This lessons learned the hard way the britische troops will put them to use in the first WW .
At the end the britische troops win but first they had to lock up a major part of the population ( women and children ) in to concentration camps so the Boer troops ( called commando's ) had to give up because they couldn't find any aid more in the country
