Run two things to see how it does after them.

1. Click Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk clean up
This will delete temp files and clear out the explorer cache

2. Click Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk defragmenter
This will realign and orgainize all files to make it more stream lined and optimize performance.

Defragmenting is very important particularly if you've never done it before or do it seldomly. I also recommend letting it defragment and not using the computer until its done. After it's done, reboot the computer and then test to see if its still running sluggish. A lot of the time this solves the problem.

do one thing start your computer...click on start--> run--> type msconfig--> then in the window click on services tab --> over there you'll find a check box for "Hide all microsoft services" and then the list will reduce to a few options--> then chekc the box DISABLE ALL--> the click on the STARTUP tab and click DISABLE ALL....

Restart the computer and if your computer's performance improves then there is a software thats causing a bad performance and itz real hard to find that if you are not an expert...

and if the performance is still the same then you can try to reinstall Windows...........and also check whether you have 128 Mb or 256 Mb of RAM (256 Mb is recommended for XP)

Maybe do start>settings> control panel>internet options> hit delete cookies, then delete files, then delete history

Then do start>programs> accessories>system tools> disc clean up and then disc defragment >highlight each of the two lines and hit defrag.

Do this at least once a week. And run the scan for spyware too.

you said you removed all those viruses..you had more than one? If you still have viruses on your computer, you probably need to get rid of them. It's very difficult to remove some of the infections out there, and unless you really know what's on your computer, you can't resolve the issues unless you have a trained professional.

find out what specifically you still have on your computer and google it for a resolution.

it might be that you are saving all of your websites on your harddrive... try this:

1.click the start button on bottom left of screen
2.find the control panel button (in different places depending on your preferences... maybe under the settings spot)
3.click on network and internet connections
4.internet options
5.delete files (check the box for delete all offline content)
6. click ok

you can also while in the internet options popup clear all history of websites.

hope i helped.

All of those answers written above work, but i suggest that you do these steps.

1. download a registry cleaner, install it, and allow it to run, and detect unnecessary registry entries. I use Ccleaner as my registry and disk cleaner. I suggest that you try it.

2. Try reinstalling your firefox, as it could be corrupted.

See how much free space you have left on your computer. If it's full, it will slow down significantly.
