The truth often causes more pain than a lie in the moment the truth is told.

A lie often causes more pain than the truth when a lie is discovered after the fact.

Really depends on the lie and the truth and the topic at hand.

Lies

The truth may hurt short-term, but if someone lies to me, I have a very very hard time trusting them again. I can do it, but it takes time and a lot of effort. If its extreme enough, i not only have the pain of the lie, but I also have the pain of not being able to fully trust that person again.

Lying hurts me for longer than the truth does, so it hurts me more. The truth may hurt, but it is softened a bit by the fact that this person values me enough to be honest with me. Honesty is one of the best traits in a person.

Truth doesn't have so many bad consequences as lies... As someone here said.. a lie is a fountain of lies. Also another thing.. a liar lives his own hall: he never knows if those around him are liars like him or not. Liars tend to mask their own personality.. and that's always hard. Their true nature will come out eventually.. as truth always come out.. sooner or later.. why bother lie then? There are exceptions of course.. when the truth can attempt to ones health...

Unfortunately.. this world it's full of good looking lies.

Lies cause more pain, especially if the lie is dicovered. In that situation you have not only the pain of a lie but also the pain of a truth to deal with.

Lies causes more pain, have you ever heard "the truth doesn't hurt, but it sure makes you feel uncomfortable". Lies causes more pain, because basically you are being tricked or blinded and then when you really find out the truth it really hurts to have been fooled. That you were really believing something that wasn't really true.

Lie causes more pain because if you are the one being lied to,you wouldn't feel so good about it. When you trust someone, you trust them for a reason and you can't blindly trust a stranger. You wouldn't feel guilty if you were saying the truth because that is how it is and you can't and you aren't changing it but when you say lies, you SHOULD feel guilty because you are hurting someone and you are trying to change something or someone which is not good citizenship.

Lies cause more pain. Once you've lied to someone, you've damaged the other person's trust in you, and you may never regain the trust that you had before you lied.

The truth may be hard to hear, but at least people can make reasonable decisions based on what they are told.

A lie because even if the truth hurts then at least you care enough to tell it.
