Go back far enough, and the people who are today's English are just not part of the British Isles in, say, 450AD. We know the first Saxons came over with Hengist and Horsa c. 490 AD after the fall of the Roman Empire. We know within a hundred years after that , the area now known as East Anglia was almost entirely occupied by Saxons and "Angles" (the Danish/North German people whose tribal name "Angles" mutated into "English" - they lived in East ANGLIA)
Then as well as Germans and Danes we started to get Scandiwegians coming over from 700AD onwards; the final incursion was from Normans in 1066 (ie, Scandiwegians who had colonised northern France)
So any "English" person who goes back far enough will find their family roots are ultimately in Denmark, or Germany, or Norway, or Sweden, or Northern France... Welsh and Scottish and Irish people have been in these islands a lot longer and might claim more privileges under "squatter's rights"?

I think if we all did some research into our backgrounds we'd be a pretty mixed bunch within the whole island.
And then way back, we'd have to think about the Romans, Vikings, Normans, etc. It may be the case if one family had lived in a small village, and whole generations had continued down
the line, and there was inbreeding within that village.
However, since the twenties people have found travel easier.
No, I think we probably are a mixed cocktail.
Your question may prove me wrong, when I skim through the answers

It is very doubtful, most of to called better classes who claim to be English are actually Frenchmen who came over which William the bastard. They claim to be English when they are no more English than the so called royal family who are German parasites.

If you mean by English people who are born here, yes there are millions. trouble is they won't admit it, they class themselves as Pakistani, Bangladeshi , Indian or anyplace their fathers or even grandfathers were born. But of course they will take all the benefit's and free hand outs that are offered to them!

You could get your DNA tested and it would only show you as being northern european. There is historically no such thing as englishness as England was invaded by many. So maybe there are few ancient Britons out there! who knows!

Records exist of our family tree, on my husbands side
Which date back to 1728.
