if it's illegal. prostitution has always been around and will always be. no matter how many arrests are made, it's still going to happen. therefore, instead of spending so much money and time on the activities of a vice squad, put these officers to work on issues that can make a lasting significant difference.

I think it would be less of a problem if it were legal.
If it is legal, it could be regulated. The prostitutes would be safer.
Really, sex sells. It is everywhere. Just look at a magazine or tv. People have a need for sex. They will get it whether it is legal or not. So, it may as well be legalized to make it safer for everyone involved. Besides, the government could then tax the crap out of it and make some extra money.

What is the "harm" of prostitution to begin with? And if there is no harm, then making it illegal is a waste of money and a form of persecution. One could simply criminalize some of the harms that are associated with prostitution (trafficking, street disturbances), and leave other people alone. There is, of course, lots of sexism within the industry, but no more than found in many other industries (think of Hollywood), and while I would like to see this fought against, making it 100% illegal only makes it more difficult for sex workers to organize and makes the police a tool for persecution rather than a tool to keep sex workers safe. What is wrong with decriminalization?

I think that it being illegal it is more of a problem, cops spent more time taking care of them and their issues then out on real crimes. I mean not that it isn't a crime but only because it is one. If it were legal then it wouldn't be that big of a deal. We know it happens anyway so why not just make it legal? I am against it though, I am juts saying for idealist thinking. I would rather have a cop on a stake out for a murderer than busting a prostitute for j-walking.

Legalize it. That way there can be mandatory testing for STDs and AIDS. Prostitutes would have a license and could only keep that license if they participated in the mandatory testing. If it was legalized they would be forced to pay income tax on some if not all of their income. It would free up the vice cops time to catch drug dealers, murders and other criminals.

Prostitution being illegal - if it's legal, you can tax it, control diseases, limit drug interaction, license it. If it's illegal, then you have at least 2 lawbreakers for every act, the government gets no fees except for catching folks in the act. Even in the legal scenario (Nevada), you have the same problems, but the logistics are cleaner and simpler.

prostitution shud be legal.
this was not originally my thinking but i heard smn say it and i think it makes sense.
look at it this way. if prostitutes had smth else 2 do, they wudnt be prostitutes---they havent been given the opportunities u or i have. circumstances have made them prostitutes. so if we take away their --source of income--to put it bluntly...then they and their kids r just going 2 die.
and all these ppl who go 2 prostitutes, once its illegal...there will be more rapes and whoo knows...maybe more child abuse..cuz these ppl wanna have sex. they dont care who it is.

Prostitution is legal in the fact that people have sex randomly with several different partners nowadays. The only difference is that they aren't getting paid...and if the are it's not with money, but with gifts and booze.

Prostitution negatively impacts society by the downward side it represents. Drugs, crime, abuse, disease.
being illegal probably limits its existence, but supply and demand wins out.
