It's not only sad it could be devastating for some people and their families. Not to mention the local economy.
I have almost all my working life been a contractor, I travel to where ever my work is , depending on who is going to pay me the most (a mercenary if you like)!
Whenever I go to some place that needs updating I work along side folk that have worked in the same spot since they left school, it's not just their work its a very large part of their lives .
I've never been a 'homebody' but these people are, some have never travelled more than 100 miles from their own homes.
I have worked in places in Scotland where large factories have opened up, because local councils have promised rent free, poll tax rates free to anyone starting up a business, and of course the promise of cheap labour! (Most of these factories were opened up by the English )
Lots of local folk had moved into these areas , bought houses then after four or five years, these factories have all closed down, they are not going to start paying rent or poll tax, and they have found they can get even cheaper labour by moving the business to India or China.
The houses being bought are now worth next to nothing, no other work in the area, thousands of lives and dreams wrecked!
Your main point seems to be " Coulnt they see this coming, why didnt they train for a stand by trade just in case"!!
Assuming that some had done just that where do they find this new trade job , should they all pack up home again and move , who is going to buy their homes, where will they live?
I wish it really was as simple as you suggest, but its not is it?
While I'm on a good rant here, let me just add that this is not just a problem for Wales, or Scotland how about your call centres in England, thousands out of work because the centres have been moved to India!
There is nothing I enjoy more than some one calling me at home and I cant understand a word they say because they talk in 'shorthand'!! When I fathom it out its some guy from India asking if I would be interested in buying a mobile phone!!

We all wonder what will happen to us if we lose our jobs but not all of us can do much about it.
As for Burberry closing down their Wales factory and moving to China, this company makes millions of pounds every year and has no real need to close this plant other than that of greed.
One other point, surely Burberry, which is a brand that relies on it's reputation for classic, quality clothes and a "Made in China," label don't mix.
Why would anyone in their right mind continue to pay the same inflated prices for goods that are going to be made in low paid sweatshops.

I agree with Barrie G - (a) I wouldn't be seen dead in Chavberry and (b) the label is flaunted as being 'SO English' and is made by starving kids in China. Frankly, Mr Burberry, you can stick your trash garments up your chavtastic bottom.

well I'm not that surprised that Wales is closing down, best thing for it, long as they don't all go to England.
