That is unheard of. Why would a guest have to pay for 1/2 of a child's birthday party? Also, why is he only asking to you pay for 1/2 too? What about the other guests, why are they allowed to come for free? Anyway... just some question about this man's logic, but regardless of who you are and who else is coming, no guest of any party should have to pay for any the cost of the party and especially not half!!!! All you are are expected to bring is yourself, and a gift if you want to be a nice guest. ;)

I wouldn't worry about handling him. You can't change him and you can't make him. Trying to resolve the issue will most likely lead to an argument with the man and that will only add more stress to your emotional state of mind. He is his wife's problem (poor woman!) ....making it her's to handle! I'd make a decision to whether or not I'll pay or pass on attending. And if I valued my relationship with my friend, I'd avoid her husand, whenever or however possible. Silence is golden!! Involving yourself to resolving the problem may cost you a friendship.
It's all up to you!!
Good Luck!

If it were that big of a problem I would just drop off a gift and drive on. There is NO WAY I would pay for half the whole darn part. If my kid were sharing the party I would...but no other way.

Most indecent situation. Having been invited it is not fare to demand fifty per cent compulsary 'donation'. You pay now and show your magnanimity, having been asked by the 'guest'. Then take a vow not to respond when invited next.

Ask him directly and looking into his eyes, What reason does he have for asking this of guest, do the other guest have to pay to and why. Just tell him to give you an answer as to why.

of course you do not have obligations to pay the half of that party.you are just a guest..if her husband is asking you for that payment..tell him why he got a nerve to invite if all he could do is ask you for a payment!!!!
