PANIC! LOL (just kidding)

Best thing to do is keep the basic cleaning caught up (e.g., toilets cleaned, kitchen sink and counters clean (and hopefully cleared)).

Clutter is often expected and tolerable, as long as the place is cluttered and not filthy, no one should be terribly shocked or dismayed.

If you haven't seen it, check out flylady.net. She provides good tips for keeping your house "company ready". She calls what you're describing "CHAOS" or Can't Have Anyone Over Syndrome (which I have right now, by the way).

Off to clean!

I like to keep a clean house especially when I have company. But if people come over & my house is a mess, I alway tell them; I'm sorry for my mess house, please over look it, I've just been so busy.

Remember your house always looks dirtier to you then anyone else, you know what's dirty & your always in it.

Keep the lighting in your house dim.... it is hard to see dust, etc in low lighting! :) And try to keep at least one bathroom and the kitchen always as clean as possible.... this is where guests tend to hang out the most! :) Good luck!

keep one room that's always neat so you can have guests over. Don't let the toddler play in that room. If you don't have a toddler, then tidy up a little each day so your plcae isn't a disaster.

Distract them and/or guide them to the cleanest area. You should not be a bad hostess because your'e worried about your house. Did you see the "Full House" where Danny was folding the girls laundry while he kissed her?

In a nice way tell them you weren't expecting them so soon, then after you've settled them in start the clean up.It may sound odd,but it'll work.

They are there to visit you, not to inspect your house.
