Most companies consider 8 hours/day to be a work day, so that is probably how you are accumulating your vacation days. Meaning 1 vacation day is worth 8 hours/day. Since you work 12 hours/day (or the equivalent of 1&1/2 eight hour days) your companies policy must be to compensate your vacation at your avarage daily hours for a vacation day taken,which in your case is 12 hours, or 1&1/2 vacation days taken. This is completely legal, but unfortunately sort of shafts you on the number of days you will get compensated.

It is not exactly cruel as long as the dog has access to these things. Water, Shelter, Food, Potty area, and plenty of toys to entertain itself during the down hours. Then the dog needs to be walked EVERY day until tired out and loving attention needs to be given. If this is a permanent arrangement Dad may consider a doggie day care. Good Luck

I think you'll find it works out right in the end. I used to work the same shift pattern as you and its because your salary is calculated over 7 days or something like that. Ask your HR dept for the calculations and they will tell you xxxxxxxxx

the normal work shift at your job is probably 8 hours. so when payroll pays you for a vacation day, they have to use 1.5 days to equal your 12 hours of pay.

This all depends on your contract. It should state in your contract how many days annual leave you get, and how much you need to take to get a day off.
If you dont have a contract or it doesnt say anything about leave in your contract, then basically they can do what they want!
