For most ballet studios they have a set dress code. You will look the most proffesional in a black leotard, pink footed tights and ballet slippers. (canvas or leather) If you wanted to go the extra mile you could ask for ribbons when you buy your shoes. Here is an example of how to tie ribbons:http://www.danceart.com/dancestuff/images/pointediagram.gif
When you get the ribbon you can cut it in half once and before putting on your shoes you can slip the ribbon under your foot and tie as shown above. Remember to tuck in the knot! If you have difficulty with that you can ask someone at any dance store.
Most ballet studios allow warmups for the beginning of class, but usually not throughout the entire class. This can include sweatshirts, shirts, camesoles, skirts, shorts and legwarmers. Sometimes they will allow you to wear shorts throughout the class.
For hair you should follow these steps to get a neat bun:
Put your hair in a medium ponytail.
Wrap it around into a bun and secure it with a ponytail holder.
Wrap a hair net around the bun and secure it with bobby pins. To hide the bobby pins you can use a large scrunchie or two.
Lastly, finish it off with hairspray or gel to come up with a secure bun.
Good luck! Ballet's a blast, but it's hard work!

Even if you dont have a leotard you should at least wear some sort of tights(pink or black would probably be preferable). Then you should wear some booty shots and a tank top. You could wear a t-shirt, but you wont be as hot in a tank top. As for the shoes, you should definitly not go barefoot because you will not be able to turn very well if you dont have ballet technique shoes use a pair of socks. You should bring a water bottle with you because you want to stay hydrated. You should always have extra clothes in your bag just in case the teacher needs you to change for some reason. In the class you will be doing a barre to warm up first, and then you will go to center and do jumps and turns and other stuff like that. You might want to get some hair pins so you can put your hair in a bun just in case your teacher doesn't want you to have it in a ponytail.

I've been dancing for almost ten years now and my dance studio has us wear black leotard, pink tights, pink ballet shoes and black dance skirt. Some dance studios have a "dress code" so you might want to check that first, if not you can wear pretty much any color leotard, tights, and skirt. ballet shoes are typically pink but there are black ballet shoes. just be cool there might be a few people more advanced then you but there are also gonna be beginners so your not alone. Hope you enjoy ballet

I have taken ballet classes for several years. At my dance studio, they require you to have a leotard, stockings/tights, ballet shoes, and your hair tied back. You should check in with the instructor on what is okay to wear. I would suggest anything that is not baggy, and something that you can move around and stretch in comfortably.
Don't worry about it. Many girls are beginners, and it is okay to try something new. You'll eventually know all of the steps and positions, but be prepared to work.

Hey,
I dancer for 8 years. Since you're a girl, you should wear a leotard, w/ weatpant style burmuda shorts or gouchos (sp). Make sure you where special nylons for dancing. you can find them at almost any dancer store. Last buy ballet shoes. If you are just trying the hobby out then buy cheap one's if not gets the ones that are fitting to your feet. Hope this helped!

well um...do u do jazz or anything? cuz u have to do some form of dance to be a cheerleader. anyway...don't wear shorts and a t-shirt. u should get a black leotard (halters work best for me), light pink tights, and ballet pink canvas ballet shoes.don't get neon pink stuff for ballet. depending on who ur teacher is, u could also get legwarmers, and decorated leos. they sell leather ones too but i don't like them. u can get this stuff at a dance shop or order it online.

when you go to the classes this is what you should be wering: foot to head
ballet shoes
white or pint tights
black leotard
hair high - to keep it out the way
you should bring a change of clothes (unless you want to go home like that): all you'll need is a skirt and jacket
- the tights will be ok for the streets
have fun hope you enjoy your ballet
