In the 90's one of the biggest issues was abortion, pro-life v.s. pro-choice activists outside the clinics with signs and all that. Now that that issue has somewhat been weened off society, the gay marriage debate is the "in" issue. Homo/heterosexuals stand outside the church (so to speak) demanding rights. Basically making gay marriage the new abortion of the millenium.

By the way, I'm not relating the two issues, I'm not saying anything about homosexuals having abortions. I am merely stating that it appears to be the new issue of sorts.

Yes, it is. Although abortion is still a controversial issue, most people seem to have shifted their attention to the subject of gay marriage.

Everyone knows abortion is at a stalemate and nothing is going to happen. I mean, if abortion didn't get overturned by 8 years of Bush, and a GOP Congress, then it will likely never happen. The Religious right has the numbers in it's corner (unfortunately) with the Gay Marriage Issue. You are right. It's now their new focus, and with it being in the courts recently, it has lots of exposure by the media.

It could be this generation's 'biggest story' as was 'the legalization of abortion' for the generation before mine ... as far as the 'legalization' of it goes. I do NOT 'approve of abortion' for religious reasons ... to me it is the same as murder ... but I also feel that it is far more 'important' that it is 'legal to have an abortion' for all women who want one, because the BUTCHERY done on women when abortion was illegal was far worse than the 'safe' abortions we have now that it is legal to get one.
I am 'equally as sure' about gay marriage, but if you think I am going to say that it 'shouldn't be allowed' you are WRONG. The simple 'fact' that it is two men in the couple, or two women, and not a man and a woman should NOT make any difference in any 'legal matter' from 'visitations' allowed by the hospital to 'inheritance' after the death of one partner. If two same gender people choose to 'live together and be life partners' why shouldn't they have the same 'legal rights and responsibilities' as two people of 'opposite' genders. And believe it or not, many of these people are just as 'religious' as the people in a 'straight marriage' are, and they also feel that it is 'wrong' for them to live together without marriage ... but if they're gay or lesbian, they 'can't get married' legally or religiously, simply because they are 'gay.' Being gay is not a 'choice' they made, and it is not a 'disease' that can be cured. These people were 'born gay' ... and that doesn't make them 'bad,' it just makes them 'slightly different' from us. It's not as if these people were demanding the 'right' to marry a sheep, a goat, or a giraffe. THAT would be something that would start all sorts of 'discussion,' for sure! So, I think that GAYS SHOULD BE 'ALLOWED' to get married, and I pray that happens soon, just as other people 'prayed' for the passing of the laws that allowed legal abortion. And, by the way, I am STRAIGHT and married.

Actually it isn't that "new" but yes, it is the major issue brought up to distract others from the crimes that are being committed by the Bush Administration.

I get what you're saying, and I agree with it. The Religious Right just can't stop being fascinated with its fellow citizens' crotches!
