leroy, be more specific, what type of liberal do you mean?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Classical_liberalism
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_liberalism
Unfortunately, most of the liberals, follow the latter ideology. If that is what you mean, then sure, why do they detest freedom?
I should edit my answer. Liberals, even of the social type, don't detest freedom. The only people that detest freedom are dictors as a threat to power. But social liberals value government influence, in the form of government protection, over individal freedom. The problem with the ideology is that if government protects a small number of people, then they limit the freedom of the majority. The trick is the balance between helping the needing and negating personal responsibility. Where to draw the line? When does helping the needy cross the line where the government is creating a class of government dependants?

Hey,I'm no bleeding -heart liberal, just the opposite and I love to argue with them but I do not believe liberals detest American freedom. We just look at things a little differently, sometimes a hell of a lot differently, thats what makes America so wonderful.God bless America!

The liberals you are alluding to do not detest American Freedom. Liberals detest idiots who ask asinine questions such as this one.
Liberals, did not say it is okay to take away your 4th amendment rights. Liberals do not arrest people for speaking out against the president. Liberals have not spit on the Constitution the way this president has by ignoring the very basis of the Constitution. Liberals have not sit idlely by allowing this President try to turn his Executive branch into a unitary goverment,i.e. a monarchy. Separate but equal branches of the government- Constitution.
Liberals did not lie us into a war of choice, because Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11 despite what the Executive branch through the rotted head George and his attack dog Dick said time and time again, and use fear to keep people in line, basically if you don't agree with me, you are unpatriotic. The founding fathers drew up that precious document to prevent this kind of run amok government.
So in essence, liberals have not said anywhere that you must allow your government to read your mail, find out what libaray books you check out, bug your phones, enter your home without a warrant and can leave without letting you know they have been in your home, put cameras in your home if Big Brother wanted to in the name of safety- Patriot Act.
Liberals have spoken out against a government that has harkened by the Stalinist days where they can throw a person in jail with no charges just on one man's say so, call the person an enemy combatant and leave them in jail for years. If they choose to charge, give a person no recourse to refute the charges by saying they are classified and so they the accused can't know what the evidence is. So the hell with the Geneva conventions and Habeas Corpus. The language in the document does not refer to a foreigner or a terrorist, it says a person. This clap trap can be aimed at innocent US citizens.
For an idiot how loves to talk about freedom and how the enemy hates us for it, it is quite surprising he has attempted and in cases succeeded in taking away the "freedoms" he claims they hate us for.

I am OK with you asking this question as long as we are clear about the fact that "Liberals are only a sub-culture of the Democratic party!" The liberals in power now are the ones that hate American policies not America itself, they would have never elected JFK or made this Great Country what it is today in my opinion. There are Democrat's and Republicans on every side of just about every issue and we need to look at issues not party affiliation.

From the people who gutted the Fourth Ammendment with the Patriot Act, and have us in a totally idiotic war, I don't think I would ask a Liberal that. You are the guys wanting to trade our rights in for "safety from Bush". You are the ones that want to silence those who have different opinions from you. You believe in Freedom Of Speech as long as it is what you want to hear. If it isn't then shut them up quickly. I love freedom. I admire those who fought and died to give it to this country. I admire the forefathers that instigated it to start with. Uno, the same ones the Republicans have spinning in their graves with their rhetoric and idealogy. You were not what they had in mind.

Liberals are all in favor of freedoms, as long as you agree with them. If you don't, you're not entitled to any freedoms in their tiny little pea-brains.

Liberals do like freedom, they just have a strange way of defining what freedom is.
To liberals, freedom is freedom from responsibility, not freedom to live life as you see best for yourself.
Liberals see freedom as free from the responsibility to plan their retirement (Social Security), free from the responsibility of planning their and their kids education (gvmt schools), freedom from the responsibility of saving for school, (gvmt loans and grants), freedom from determining their health care (national socialized health care), ect...
Liberals are comfortable living paycheck to paycheck as long as they have just enough for scratch off lotto tickets every week and letting others plan their lives and their future for them.
