Iraq is the conservative Republican eqivelant of the welfare state. Further, I like the way Bush lets the installed head of the iraqi government decide the fate of Americans, when we will leave, how many more troops to send, etc. Bush wouldn't listen to the UN, but he's lead around by the peepee by the head of Iraq.

That's treason, my friend.

The Iraqis are accustomed to rule beneath a tyrant, and having led such a slavish existence, where survival is based around attaching yourself to some stronger party that might someday take you to higher places, the people cannot be expected to trust or handle a democracy. Only a tyrant can replace a tyrant successfully, otherwise, people rebel. The country must be controlled with an iron hand until all dissidents are dispersed; only then will there be a possibility of peaceful self-government. The notion that a democracy can be instantiated immediately out of a harsh tyrrany is misguided. Only where a good deal of autonomy and fairness exists already in the population can a popular movement toward democracy against tyrrany arise.

That's like judging a subjected and abused spouse or child-for how many? 40-50 years-that's a generation! to understand, be educated enough and emotionally mature to do all that the job entails. There are so many intelligent, wonderful hardworking people in the country and abroad that are capable, but also a fearful populace that is new to all this, with thinking and historical and religious background far differant from many of us in Western countries. People have no right to predict or judge what they do not know-Yes we need to get out, but as a country based on freedoms pursued from being subjegated ourselves-why can't we understand this?

The problems in Iraq have little to do with the Iraqi people. Outside interference is the main problem in Iraq. This is feeding the sectarian violence being kept alive by the outsiders.

Stop the out side interference and you will stop the war!

This is one of the basic rules we learned from WWII. Stop the enemy's resources and you will stop the enemy. The US and Great Britain spent a great deal of time and effort tracking down and destroying the Nazi and Japanese fuel, food, and ammunition supplies, thereby preventing them from fighting an offensive war.

With all the technology we have today, you would think our military effort would be able to stop and destroy all means of supply being fed to Iraq. The operative word in that last statement is destroy!

I think you'll find that the Iraqi's have asked the US for weapons so they can take over from the US troops and Bush has refused.

They want they country and the US is happy to set up shop there.

I think you hit a big one with corrupt, the government is not even showing up for its votes within its congress. They are being paid 100,000 plus dollars and they are not fullfilling their government duties. The president has been in the backpocket of the shiite militias for so long that he is purposefully holding back the Iraqi military from confronting the shiite death squads and militiants.
