Alright. The order of operations is as follows: 1. Parenthesis. 2. Exponents. 3. Multiplication. 4. Division. 5. Addition. 6. Subtraction (or abbreviated, PEMDAS). The only time this alters is when you have a division symbol in just the numerator or just the denominator of your problem.
So, in these problems, you solve everything that's in the brackets first if you have any (which we do). So, we solve what's in the brackets using PEMDAS.
[0.5+(-0.9)+0.2] is what's in brackets. We have parenthesis, but there's just one number in the parenthesis, so it's all simplified, meaning we don't have to do anything about symplifying it. All we have to do is think of this. Since when you add a negative number it remains negative, and we have a plus sign infront of the -0.9, which means we're adding it, it remains negative. Therefore we have:
[0.5-0.9+0.2].
Now, we don't have any exponents to simplify, we have no multiplication or division to do, so we skip these steps. But we do have addition, the next step, so we add -0.9 and 0.2.
[0.5-0.7].
Now, all we have is subtraction. So we subtract 0.7 from 0.5:
[-0.2].
Now that we have simplified the brackets using the order of operations, we can write the equation as:
-2.7+[-0.2].
Now, as I said, when you add a negative number it remains negative, so, since there's a plus sign infront of the negative two, which means we're adding it, we can get rid of the plus sign and get:
-2.7-0.2=-2.9
Since subtraction was the only operation left, I subtracted. Now I have my answer, -2.9.
There you go. I'm glad I could help. :)

First distribute the plus into the parenthesis; so you get:
= -2.7+[0.5-0.9+0.2]
Then you start from left to right inside the brackets.:
= -2.7+[-0.4+0.2]
Once again, inside brackets, from left to right
= -2.7+[-0.2]
Distribute the "+" into the brackets
= -2.7-0.2
Finish it up
= -2.9
