This bogus "news story" credited to AP began making the email rounds on June 2, 2006. No such article was published by the Associated Press or any other legitimate media outlet.

Though its exact origin has yet to be determined, an early version was posted on the Museum of Hoaxes message board on December 20, 2005.

One obvious clue that it's a prank is this purported quote -- actually a popular catchphrase from "Family Matters" -- from White's suicide note: "Did I do that?"

The answer is no.

It was an internet hoax. Falsely attributed to the Associated Press, claimed in 2005 that White had killed himself, leaving a suicide note that included Urkel's catchphrase, "Did I do that?".

No, he's not dead.
He was in some movie called Dreamgirls, as a talent booker. I think a lot of people missed that.

Um, yea the rumor said he was depressed because he couldn't get any other roles because he was type cast as a nerd. So, he took a gun and shot himself leaving behind a note saying "Did I do that?".

But that never really happend.

Technically, you could say that Steve Urkel is dead. He lives only in reruns. Jaleel White, however, is alive and well.

In 2006, it was rumored that Jaleel White had committed suicide. That was proven to be FALSE. As far I know , he is very much alive.
