You can buy the songs or just use CD's then you plug it in using the wire it came with and it usually will download it with no trouble. (KEEP iTunes OPEN AT ALL TIMES)
You can also go to the apple iTunes FAQ's on their website.

You should have gotten a usb cord with the nano so you plug that in to the comp. and to the ipod and then itunes should show up, but first before plugging it in make a playlist with the songs you want on there or make seprate playlist for different songs that is up to you. then where you usually see the Cd when you listen to them using Itunes your ipod should be there click it then go to music check the playlist you want and then press apply. That should do it.

all you do is hook it up using the usb cable and if it is the first time it will ask you setup questions (ie: name the ipod, language, etc.) then once it is up it will automatically start transfering all the music from your library, if you don't want it to do that you can go to iPod options and select "manual" and then you can go into your library and select songs and drag and drop them onto the little iPod icon...
