It seems...that poetry was quoted more in the times of Jane Austen, than today. Do you believe it is a lost art? Do we study poets and their poetry today as much as they did in the past?

Is the reason why because we have way too much now...in the form of tv,radio, movies, recordings....and all they had back then were books?

As a poet, I can tell you that Poetry is almost dead here in the United States. No one reads it, no one any longer has the ability to understand it. It's sad, but true...to undertand poetry you have to look very deeply into what the poet has written, and americans just aren't able to do that anymore.

poetry changes with the times... right now, some of the most popular poets are rap artists... when i was a child, the beat poets were doing readings in smokey coffee houses.

we think of the Jane Austin days as romantic and flowery -- but that novel was quite edgy for the times -- check out what the society thought of it. Mozart and the Waltz were not all that well loved by the established older folks -- they were wondering what the world was coming to.

So if we have recordings of our favorite poets with their edgy beat and their sagging trousers, we carry them with us -- and recall them in a different way.

those who refuse to hear the poets are left behind.

In the old days... People looked up to, and emulated poets and artists and musicians from a more respectful place of awe and honor.

Now days... You get children playing with bratz dolls because Brittney Spears; "Didn't get into music to be a role model," she got into it because her mother is a c**t that used and exploited her own under aged daughter to better her own financial state and condition.

Little girls followed suit having no other understanding or knowledge of what good music or art actually is because there is a jon benet generation of idiot mothers that also have no knowledge or understanding of classical art or music to give to them.

Blinded by the musical train wreck, redneck, creating a bunch of little whore bots with no taste or knowledge of anything past fashion and make-up whose greatest aspiration in life is to get into college and get on a "girls gone wild video."

I say this, omitting the boys because it is girls who give birth, it is girls who become mothers, and it is women who either give or deprive their own of art and literature.
