I grew-up in the 60's and 70's . Became educated on Politics in about 1974 and onward . I did not 'see' anything resembling the current Left-Wing liberalism coming !!!! Sure, there were always radicals, but never could I imagine that it would someday become close to main-stream !!!!

Did any of you 'see' this coming ?

No, but I know how it happened.
They hijacked the education system. You don't know anything else when they start indoctrinating you in kindergarten.

Libs let their agenda out of the bag when Hillary said "It takes a village to raise a child" they want to control your life from cradle to grave.

Huh? Did you see the current conservative mindset coming? I'm talking about the difference between a republican 20 years ago, as in George Bush Sr., and a republican now, as in George Jr. At some point conservatism became synonymous with the religious right. Liberals have always been there, that's what the 60's and 70's were about. Remember Abbie Hoffman or the 1968 Democratic Convention in Chicago? What do you call that?

I became aware of it in the late 80's and early 90's...i was in my early 20's. I viewed it as creeping socialism. Creeping socialism meaning 2 steps forward and one step back. Socialist have been good at being patient. Socialism creeping in schools, youth sports, movie themes, government regulation. I mean when you have 535 people whose only job is to make rules then at some point the rules become over reaching and put gov't into every aspect of your life. I remember a great parody rap song in the early 90's called "womb to the tomb" about how gov't wanted take control of your life from cradle to grave.

Over the last 15 years more people have come to view it as the normal progression of the country. They see the socialist expansion in Europe and feel like the one on the outside looking in. I liken it to peer pressure; everyone else is doing it so I must be the weird one. There were always those that had sympathy for the USSR but the Cold War kept them at a distance. Once the USSR fell there was no tangible example of the ills of Socialism. Socialism has failed every where it has been tried.

The conservative revolution started by Reagan will move the country to the right. It will cycle back. The pendulum will swing back the other direction. I believe it will be when all of us "Reagan babies" get to be in our 50's and in a position of power both monetary and an image of wisdom. The position the baby boomers have been for the last 15 years. Every poll indicates the country is right of center in its beliefs it just takes time for the countries institutions to react and right themselves.

Let not your heart be troubled. We are winning and it will be easier to recognize our wins as time goes by.

there's no liberal mindset in current politics. just because they're talking about trying to come up with a health care system you think they're communists? you are very narrow-minded. there is a lot more left out there than there is in american politics... there are a lot of people out there who are so disillusioned they don't even vote, and as a matter of fact, they are the majority. they're not all liberals, but a lot of them would be if they would put their mind to figuring out exactly where they stand, rather than just thinking of politics as a bunch of old white guys screwing us all over. If the liberals were truly represented in american politics, you would see that what's happening now is nothing compared with it... the most "liberal" things our government even CONSIDERS doing are basic in nations around the world which are considered fairly conservative... such as affordable health care, even state-paid college for anyone who wants it (with private schools still available). Also, if you looked into it, you'd find that the center is a little more to the left than americans imagine it, because our politicians are all leaning toward the right. So don't worry, let a little liberalism into american politics, because we're not going red anytime soon.

But hey, nixon's the one, right? I'm sure you think I'm the scum of the earth for thinking a government should take care of its less-fortunate citizens or it shouldn't have a right to exist. If you want no government regulation of business AND no government help for the people who are left behind, for what does government serve except to provide a police force that protects those who could afford to pay their own militias anyway? you might as well be living in the jungle.

in response to what goddess said above, you're right and right now if we don't fight back, the eight-hour workday will disappear... it's starting to disappear all over the world, first they took away overtime pay for millions of Americans, now we're losing benefits and must find additional jobs, and recently in many jobs they've started counting the breaks off the workday... so it's like they're "working" 8 hours, but they have to be at work for 9 hours because lunch doesn't count. In Europe they're considering an increase to 10 hours a day. Our recent ancestors fought for the 8-hour workday and many were killed... if we let them take it away now, we won't get it back without violence.

I was born in 62 and have devoted my life to liberalism save one aspect of it . I can not accept the murder of children after conception by any means or for any reason . With that said i am against capitol punishment large corporations and big government that go hand in hand . The control factor among the masses is the law which is applied in an inequitable manner against the poor . This creates renters and consumers with no ability to move upwards and is designed in particular to keep minorities out of land ownership . The only reason prohibition on alcohol ended was white people brewed the mash and provided the spirits . Had a large segment of blacks had the initial capitol to build stills and refine spirits I have no doubt that today spirits would be among the war on drugs . You I am sure will disagree because of your limited ability to look in the broader sense at the picture and how the parts work together .
Large corporations work in their own best interest and do not serve the local economy in many cases with low wages and profits from this work relocated to large city's like New York where the average pay has increased to 80,000 powered by the profits skimmed out of local economies and redistributed to central Cities where waste is the theme of the day . Insurance , banking , commodity trading all needed so to speak but on a local level . Concentrating the profit leads to the abuse of workers by the few over the masses . You my like your position of power and control over others and the profits you rake in and enjoy but trust me those who have to work are not thrilled with your pampered existence off the labor they provide .
As for the government it protects defends and enjoys the collection of taxes corporations provide and dealing with these monsters is easier then dealing with the people . So the government exists to benefit the corporations for its survival and the corporations exist to concentrate wealth and through intimidation and laws force the masses to accept what is laid out to choose from .
You my be happy with this but it is not what the founding fathers intended .

I'm 42 and hoped that it would never come.

I'm a moderate republican, my father was a democrat but our views weren't that much different.

Now even the moderates from the conservative and liberal sides seem to be way apart on their views.

I think we are going through a cycle, the hippie generation has reached the age of influence. I think it will pass in the next 15 to 20 years and we will cycle back to a more conservative society.

It's probably a good thing, the influence of power needs to cycle between conservative and liberal in order to maintain balance. The days of moderation are behind us and we can't seem to find the middle of the road people to lead us and if we do they are caught in the cross fire and silenced by the left and right.

Hopefully one day this country can see that the middle of the road is provides the smoothest ride.

My first vote for President came in 1972 and I didn't vote for Nixon because I didn't agree with the Vietnam conflict. There were thousands and thousands marching in the streets of Washington. I never viewed those folks as liberals. They were Americans against the conflict in Vietnam including many vets who came home from that conflict. I don't see this liberal mindset you are speaking about. I see Americans disgusted with the President's policies and his poor performance in office, along with his administration, which I view as either evil and/or having their own agenda. A single tax cut six years ago which gave me four hundred dollars is supposed to convince me he is doing a good job? That money is long gone and yet people keep bringing it up like it was the singular reason he is a good President. Their is no liberal agenda, there is a democratic agenda to right the wrongs that this President and this administration have inflicted on most Americans. That's my take on things.

It goes back and forth it seems. Since I have been of age to vote, it has been that way. We can never find a 'complete' leader. Unfortunately, they all manage to piss off a lot of people. I believe people vote according to that. Sadly , another thing that seems to be prevalent among my group, is that we vote for the lesser of two evils. It's sad and the founding fathers are probably spinning in their graves. I hate politics.

i do in comparison to kin photos or albums. i won't make any in my grownup life. My persons saved their previous photograph albums in a lower back corner of my mattress room closet, with the containers of tax paperwork. whilst i became into 12 or 13, i desperate to bypass poking by them. i stumbled on that my father had a 'first spouse' who wasn't my mom, and that i had a a million/2-brother I by no potential knew existed. I felt betrayed via my parents for by no potential having advised me approximately my brother or approximately my dad's early blunders, and that i by no potential observed my dad in the comparable gentle, ever lower back. From that factor on, kin photograph albums have been keepers of unfavourable and traumatizing secrets and techniques; like how the internet captures and holds directly to each stupid ingredient you ever say or do on line, attainable for reference years and years once you be attentive to extra appropriate. That stated, my kin photograph albums additionally contain the smiling photographs of kinfolk who ended up assembly somewhat unhappy and tragic ends. i do no longer prefer to be reminded that those moments (on the bowling alley, at a park, at a movie) all those years in the past, have been the superb it ever have been given for them. It makes me experience like i've got already experienced the superb i will ever journey, and now it relatively is downhill from there till I die. whilst kin photograph albums make you prefer to mourn the pitiful lives your loved ones individuals lived, you have a tendency to keep away from them.
