i'm 22, so i am aware that this sounds a bit immature, but my bff of 10 years has always been a major copycat. let me explain. i wanna move to NY after i graduate, she's never been there and always says she wants to live near the beach in LA after college, but now she suddenly is looking for jobs in NY. also, she has tons of hobbies/activities that i don't take part in (dancing, surfing, etc.) b/c those things "just aren't my thing" but i respect that they are "her thing." meanwhile, whenever i take up a hobby or finally have something that i feel i can call "my thing" (photography, fashion design) she has to do that too. it's like even with her busy schedule, she still always has to do everything that i do as well. i know photography and fashion design aren't exclusive to me alone, but c'mon now. i look for new things just so i can have my own life, but she always follows me! i never have any stories to tell her or activities to "share" w/ her b/c she's right there w/ me every time!

I hate friends like that. I think that her life just isnt good enough, so she is trying to live your life. It would be a nice compliment if it wasnt so darn annoying. Just keep living your life like you want to live it, and eventually she will find your hobbies don't suit her. Or maybe introduce her to someone who shares her interest in dancing and surfing, and maybe that will take her mind off of your life. Good Luck!

I had a friend like this and felt like she was a stalker. I finally got so tired of it that I ended our friendship. If you don't want to end your friendship, start to steer her in the opposite direction. Make "your thing" the opposite of what you want. For example tell her that you changed your mind and are thinking of going into law or moving somewhere that is the opposite of where you would live etc. She will continue to do this forever, this problem won't go away on its own. You probably need to end this friendship.

I know exactly how you feel. My niece does the exact same. She is my best friend, but I also want my own life. Everything I tell her I want to do or what I did. She goes off and do them to. Like getting a new hair cut or cellphones and like you say a hobby you like. It frustrates me. My friends told me to ignore or say that you are going to do something, that your not really into. Like cutting your hair and colour it purple etc.
Good luck! I feel for you.

my girlfriend has a friend like that that she tells me about the problem sometimes, and to tell you the truth everybody has a role model, and you seem to be your friends role model......
nobody really knows how to cope with this sort of thing, there is just going to be some people in life like that and its OK to be mad about it. i think you should just sit down with your friend and talk about the deal that's been happening. i wouldn't be surprised if she gets mad about it, but I'm sure that after shes got some thinking in she will come to her senses and realize. If you decide to sit down & talk wither also include that if she makes a friend who smokes pot or weed could get in some seareouse trouble.

maybe your friend is realizing that you guys are going to grow apart after college...since you want to move to NY and she to LA...she just is too attached and doesnt want to part with you : ) lol...so she thinks by copying you, the two of you will become mroe bonded and not separate after graduation...
i dunno but that would be my guess
