The real deal is baking soda does neutralize the acid in your stomach but that will cause more problems. You need that acid to digest food. When you neutralize the acid you won't digest the food. That means the food in your stomach will pass through the intestines but won't offer any nutrients for your body. Your intestines can't absorb nutrients from whole food. The same is true of the colon. Whole food will cause problems there too. Your solution is increase the acid in your stomach, not decrease it. Too little acid in your stomach causes the food to sit in the stomach too long and rot. This causes gas to build up and expand the stomach. Here comes the heart burn, bloating and burping. Hydrochloric acid can be bought as a supplement and taken before meals to increase the acid in your stomach. Since your stomach hasn't been working well for a while I stands to reason you need to put some enzymes in your intestines too. More supplements. And you can bet your colon needs flushing out with help from a herbal laxative. One last thing: Is your tongue clean? Brushing your tongue will help taste the food. This starts the stomach and liver in making digestive fluids.

One of the things you should consider is Why has it been necessary for you to have to use bicarb for two years. You should try to address the underlying cause. Indigestion is caused by overeating, alcohol consumption, eating too late in the day (if you lay down the effect of gravity keeping the food in your stomach is removed and it can more easily move up into your oesophagus) or could be caused by a weak muscle in the sphincter at the top of your stomach. Some lifestyle changes could remove the need for you to take bicarb, but it could also be a medical problem. Talk to your doctor. By the way bicarb is a weak base, your body takes care of the pH change, so it is completely harmless.

I'm not sure what "your" you are referring to. I have heard no rumors of problems with baking soda and water. I, personally, recommend soy protein powder in water. It does the job in about 30 minutes, and as it is food, there are no expectable after-effects.
If you have the problem constantly, it may be a sign of blood sugar imbalance or intestinal flora imbalance. There is some info at www.hufa.org about low blood sugar and the symptoms that can cause.

The remedy that works everytime for acid indigestion/reflux is apple cider vinegar, honey and water....sounds weird, but it works! Make it sweet enough to sip and heat it up a little...you'll be amazed.

I've never heard it isn't good for you...I guess it just depends upon how often you take it (not that the baking soda is bad, but that you are covering up a serious condition that is worsening)

It depends on how ofter you take it, if taken too much, it can mess up your electrolyte balance. and be sure it is indigestion, if it is your heart, you could make it even worse. Think about other solutions, like ginger or vinegar.

It is fine unless you are using it all the time. It changes the pH in your stomach, which is why you feel relief. If you are using it daily, it could cause problems, just like using Tums daily would cause problems.
