As a driver you need to be familiar with all of your surroundings, if a car runs a red light are you going to hit them because your light is green and it means go? Use your head! You need to keep your eyes open and pay attention, some people think they can make it before the light changes! You need to get the police and make sure the person is OK and be responsible!

That happened here recently. A pedestrian crossed against the light. They were hurt pretty badly and ended up in the hospital. The pedestrian received a jay-walking ticket and I believe that they are being held responsible for the damage to the driver's car. The driver did not receive a ticket.

Just because you have a green light, and the pedestrian shouldn't be crossing does NOT give you permission to run them over. If you are paying attention, unknowingly would not be possible. Intentional would lead to your arrest for assault.

If you are in such a situation, you'd best find a good attorney and be prepared to pay for the injuries you caused.

If you aren't, but are considering doing such a thing, please don't, it would be a criminal act.
