I write poetry... And the poems I write are depressing. My life isn't sad or depressing or anything but what I write is just what comes out. My friend hates my poetry and tells my it's stupid and too depressing and then gets all suspicious. I hear it somewhat normal for teens to write poetry like mine but my friend doesn't agree.

As the poet says, "We see into the life of things..."

That is why poets live the shortest lifes. They are too sensitive to the cruel world around them.

So...you may write sad poems, but the world is a sad place. And you feel it more than others...it cries out to your soul to write your feelings.

When I was in HS I would write poetry, but the only time I wrote GOOD poetry was when I was upset about something. I hated conflict, I was shy and poetry was my way of getting those emotions out. I think writing or writing poetry is a great way of getting those emotions out, and moving on with your life. My mom came across my book of poetry and seriously thought I was depressed. I explained all of this to her, but she still didn't understand the way I felt. Sometimes now even 10 years later she will bring up that I was so depressed as a teenager, but I wasn't it was just my way of dealing with my emotions.

The way you write is the way you write. I write fantasy. Some people say it's unruly for a Christian to write fantasy, while others adore it. If your poetry is good and depressing, then it's good and depressing. If your friend doesn't like it, that's their problem. You write in your own ways, so ignore the negative comments and except the positive ones. You'll do better in writing if you do that.

Everybody has some knowledge of sadness, so there's nothing wrong with writing about it.
There's no law saying your friend has to like your poetry, either. I assume you do have something in common with your friend, and there are some things you do enjoy together. It doesn't have to be your poetry.
I am a great reader, but there are some highly regarded authors that I just don't enjoy. But other people do, obviously.

Some of my best stuff.
I don't think this poetry is called depressing.
Keep on writing, but put some love in it first,
then let it all go down hill. ;-)

suited, poetry is approximately one's perception and attitude. I rather do not think of that poem ability which you're depressed. as an occasion, a poet can write a heartbreak poem and not be heartbroken.

Most teens who write poetry just put a bunch of depressing words together that they don't understand and somehow think it's profound. To anyone else, it's trite and annoying.
