Good Question! How do you fight a dedicated group of terrorists
who think, they will go to heaven, if they kill the infidels?.(KILLS us) OR, anyone who doesn't believe in Islam! I have heard that the extremist element of Islam only represents 10-15% of their total population! In the past, Nuclear Age, Cold War period,
until the USSR went bankrupt, and threw in the towel, the way
you prevented the enemy from using the Nuke against you, was,
you (USA) would Nuke them, also! The BIG reason that the USSR pulled their Nukes out of Cuba, called the Cuban Crisis! So the reason it was never used, was both leaders realized, no one would win a nuclear war! Life as we know it would pretty much be gone! The Soviets, and the USA had enough Nuclear bombs to distroy the world, several times! Well, it worked!
But what worked for the USA and the Russians (USSR), the other NON-Nuclear leaders want to be able to have that
protection also.
If Saddam had finished developing his Nuclear capacity, prior to our invassion, do you question, he would not have used them? He had even used poison gas and germ warefare on his own people! You think he would have hesitated using it on our troops! Why do you think Iran is working so hard on developing same! Why is North Korea able to blackmail
the world with the threat of his Nuclear weapons? Why don't we take him, or his nuclear capacities out? He has the bomb, Now!
I remember the words of a great American President who said,
"Speak Softly, but carry a BIG Stick"! (Teddy Roosevelt)
Why have the Big Stick if you are not going to use it? But the threat of the Big Stick, doesn't do any good, if you don't
at least use, the threat of it? The Big Stick worked against a similar extremist enemy in WW2, Japan. Using the Big Stick (Atomic Bombs) then, saved millions of lives in the event that Japan had to be invaded, ala D-Day! I see a lot of similarity between the Japanese military (suicide bombers, dying for the Emporor - was a great honor, etc) and the Islamic Extremists!
To answer your question, It worked on Japan! I don't think that use of the Nukes is necessary yet, but I do think we should bomb
(Smart Bombs) the Iranian atomic sites before they develop the bomb! Do you think giving them that bomb, that they will
not use it? If innocent people were any concern to them (except killing infidels) explain 9/11 to me!
What will we do, if some terrorists smuggle and detonate an atomic devise in the USA? Now that is a real threat, I believe!
I think, that they have to know, yes, we would use it! If they care?

You have a big problem understanding and education. When was a nuke invented that will kill the "Islamic extremism" and not kill the Innocent civilian standing beside them. There are 9 billion who follow Islam in our world. Would you nuke them all? I would not. Only a very small number are "extremist". The problem in Iraq now is our service members do not know the difference. A nuke also does not know the difference.

If you have a field of corn do you burn the field to get rid of the wild oats? If you used nuclear weapons in Iran then the clerics in Jordan would say "look what the great satan has done, we must use jihad against them" - and even moderates would listen. You would then have a problem with moderate Islam AND extremist Islam. Of course then you could nuke Jordan, then the clerics all over the world would say "the great satan is killing hundreds of millions of people, we must fight for survival" - and even the liberals would listen. You would then genuinly have a war with Islam - wheras now it's a war against a few crazies who want to do away with the West.

None. They should be nuked; I'm all for creation of "The Middle Eastern Sea" where the center of the islamic world used to be. Let the innocents, if there are any, get out of there in time but drop the big one on them fast!

And to Smellyfoot: No, they should be BIG nukes! And yes, KILL THEM ALL! THEY ARE A THREAT TO OUR VERY EXISTENCE!!!

Other than? Nope.... let's create a world wide "do over." Wipe out the whole middle east above the ground, exploit the oil... but first lets take a lot of pictures of the antiquities for the photo album. Nuking this area would be no loss at all.

Stop all immigration from these countries. The nuclear radiation fallout would contaminate the whole world not just the nuked country.

First, that's exactly what they want. The end of the world.

Secondly, nuclear fallout could cause a problem with other countries.

Thirdly, you risk blowing up the oil wells and making the region uninhabitable for continued oil drilling...as oil IS the only true interest that oil gobbling nations have over there.

If Islamic Extremism was a country, then you would have a valid point. But it's not...what do you want to do, drop little mini nukes all over the place until they are all dead?

if the international community would stop being pus sies, we could put down these radicals and start integrating them into the twenty first century.

apparently the lesson about appeasement wasn't learned the first time around.
