Cleaning Your LCD Screen

The major computer outlet stores are now starting to carry LCD cleaners for Flat Panel Monitors and Notebooks that do not contain the chemicals found in some commercial glass cleaners. These cleaners will definitely do the job nicely, but you do have to purchase them. If you do not wish to purchase these factory made cleaners, then you can clean your LCD Screen in the following manner.

What You Can Use

Water.

Water with a tiny amount of soft liquid soap.

Isopropyl Alcohol.

Hexane.

Petroleum Benzine.

Commercial glass cleaners that do not contain ammonia.

What You Should Avoid

Acetone.

Ammonia.

Ethyl acid.

Ethyl Alcohol.

Methyl chloride.

Toluene.

Commercial glass cleaners containing ammonia.

How You Should Do It

You should clean your LCD Screen display by applying the cleaner to a soft, clean cloth. Then you should wipe the cloth across the display from left to right, moving from the top of the display down to the bottom of the display. If your display contains grease or some other contaminant, then you should dampen your cloth with water instead of a commercial cleaner as the cleaner may smear the contaminants across the screen.

Use glasses cleaner (as in, for cleaning your reading glasses). Spray it on a soft cloth (you can use high-quality paper towel too, aka the expensive stuff), then wipe it over the screen. NEVER spray directly on the screen. Eye-glasses contains loads of layers of coatings, up to about 75 in the high end. Glasses cleaner is the purest, most effective cleaner you can get that will get the screen clean, without scratching or leaving a lot of residue. It'll remove fingerprints, pop splashes, or anything else that's on your screen. Spray-on screen cleaner that you buy from stores typically contains a lot of unnessary chemicals and often leaves residue on the monitor (to prevent static effect which is unnessary on modern monitors), and will often cause the screen to appear blurry. You can buy glasses cleaner either from an optometrist (where you get glasses), or in the supermarket. Here in Canada, I've found the glasses cleaner from Superstore to be the most efficient.

Could you clean your screen with those thing? Sure.
Would I? No.

Monitors are a big chunk of change, and you should use the proper equipment to screen them with.

You wouldnt put regular in a ferrari, so dont use wet rags on an LCD.

Buy a bottle of screen cleaner from your local walmart and be done with it.

yes, use a wet cloth with no lint
make sure you dry out the water first
do this clean up with very gentle movement

some people suggest to use a little alcohol
make sure the screen is off,
DO NOT do this when it is ON

Yes. Wet a soft cloth with water and rub the display ALL IN ONE DIRECTION top to bottom. DO NOT USE WINDEX. The only other thing to use besides water is a comercial laptop display cleaner.

I would only do it if the cloth was lightly damp. If it is dusty just wipe it down with a dry, lint-free cloth. I do not reccomend cleaning it with a completely dampened cloth.

No.
Use a cleaning liquid that has fast evaporating qualities.
or something gentle like eyeglass cleaner.
Use a clean cotton or microfiber cloth ... make sure it has no dirt particles in it ... may scratch your screen.
