That is one of those questions that is a trial and error thing. The one you have is probably going to be territorial over "it's space" so introducing another may cause some fighting. Especially if you bring two males together. A female and a male might take a little while to get used to one another, but then you got the problem that the person above described. Whatever you do, realize it is going go take a little time for them to warm up to one another, even two males might be okay after a little while, but one is probably going to be dominant over the other. You just don't want the fighting to get out of hand to where they are becoming injured.
This is what I would do to ease the transition. Go buy another cage, set it up and introduce them both to it at the same time. This way, everything is new to each of them. Neither should have that attitude of this is my space and who is this jerk who is invading it. Just keep a close eye on them for the first week or so, and if it isn't working, then you have an extra cage to put one in and they can just look at one another from behind the safety of their enclosures.

Probably not. Even if he were a dwarf breed (the only kind that can live in multiples) living alone for a year and suddenly a hamster comes along...well lets just say you might have more than one funeral. They would fight to a brutal death because the original one is not ready to accept a new buddy. I say just play with him and keep him happy. IF you are interested in having a pair of the same gender then dwarf hamsters can live in pairs or small colinies if they are from the same cage or litter (sisters or brothers). Introductions from different places aren't always very good. Have fun with your little bud!!

If they are dwarf hamsters, yes as long as they are the same sex. If however they are common syrian hamsters, absolutely a no-no. As they get older they will certainly fight and could even kill each other. The animals kept together in pet shops are youngsters from the same litter and do not fight for this reason. For more advice i would ask an experienced member of staff at a scrupulous pet shop. They will also be able to tell you what type of hamster you have if you are not sure about this.

No do not buy a second.Golden hamsters (or syrian hamsters as they're also called) are solitary and even if you get 1 of the opposite sex after mating they will fight fiercly and 1 will probably die.
Dwarf hamsters are more social but you can only keep them with litter mates-at 1 he is too old to accept another dwarf hamster.

hamsters are territorial, I have 2 hamsters who grew up in the same cage, and they still fight even after living together or 3 years. Puting another one in is not recommended by me or any pet store. But its ok because hamsters like living by themselves for the space. But make sure that they are the same gender.

yes they will attack each other most likley they will fight to the death!. syrian hamsters are solitary animals except when mating. russian hamsters can be kept together if kept together from a young age , preferably same sex from same litter. it is best for your hamster to stay happy and solitary rather than go through any pain or trauma trying to get him a friend. keep him happy with regular handling and stimulated with new toys, treats and things to chew . you are your hamsters best friend!.

if you get a female, you will have 15 hamsters in about a month. if you get a male, they will kill each other. the only type of hamster that will live together are Dwarf hamsters, but you have to get females because the males will still get territorial.

DEFINATELY NOT!!!
Hamsters are very territorial creatures. if you get another they will most probably kill each other. This leaves a big mess and is a very unpleasant experience. Also if they are of opposite sex they may have babies so instead of one you will have hundreds
literally!!!!
