How come the Enola Gay didn't get destroyed by the very bomb they were deploying but that very weapon destroyed entire cities (Hiroshima and Nagasaki).

The bomb was dropped at a high enough altitude that the aircraft would be far enough away not to be damaged by the explosion. When planning the plane's getaway, the planners even took into consideration the direction that the aircraft's propellers were spinning, and instructed Colonel Tibbets to turn in the same direction to take advantage of the centrifugal force generated by the propellers. The plane was shook up a bit, but not damaged.

In a nut shell. It was a High Altitude Drop, The Bombs were out-fitted to detonate at a given Height, And the Bombs were out-fitted with a small chute to further slow their descent. This allowed the Enola Gay to fly far enough away to avoid the damage.

They dropped the bomb from a high altitude. and any anti-aircraft guns were destroyed by the balst. Later atomic bombs by Russians and Americans had parachutes on them to slow their fall so the planes could get away, but im bot sure about the bomb at Hiroshima or Nakisaki

They executed an immediate hard turn away from the blast at full speed and they did feel some of the blast but it was very minor..

A small blast of 15 Kilotons would be pretty much dissipated after 5 to 10 miles and you can cover that distance in seconds at 200 plus miles per hour.

The plane was at an extremely high altitude, flying at high speed, and the bomb was timed to off at a certain altitude which took time to reach falling, thus gave the plane time to reach a safe distance.

They were at a high altitude but yet close enough to witness the explosion, "My God, what have we done?" is the famous quote.
