I know people who complain that they do not have healthcare insurance and can not afford it, yet they drive SUV's, have cell phones for the entire family, wear designer clothing and go on expensive vacations every year. And there are a lot of wellfare recipients who are abusing the system as well. I have a real problem paying higher taxes to support people like this. Why should I have to compromise my already modest lifestyle because people won't try to help themselves? Socialized medicine will only make people more dependent. And where there is dependency, there is no prosperity.
Healthcare costs are high because there is a lot of fraud out there. What we need is Medical Liability Reform. Medical liability reform would decrease healthcare costs, freeing up more money to make insurance more affordable. It would also increase access to healthcare, as fewer doctors would be forced out of the profession or away from high-risk specialties because of overwhelming malpractice insurance premiums. We also need to investigate welfare fraud which is costing us billions of dollars as well.
Big government involvement in anything is generally not a good thing. There is too much room for fraud---at the taxpayer's expense.

I believe it is so very necessary for the survival of the low income American family. Without it we become foder for more lies by the local and Federal Government, Pawns to use for the misappropriation of funds like grants and monies received from tax increases. The City or Prison or County or State who dispise the poor and homeless suddenly cherish movements to provide benefits and help for them. They forget , just the week befor the City banned feeding the homeless and threatened legal action if you did! Homeless people are bad for Las Vegas Tourist trade. But now in a move to gain Fed. dollars the City, State is taking a census all week in the middle of the night; of the Homeless because the City is so compassionate,At least that's "what we been told" But those funds, grants will never reach the needy, some will trickel down just for evidence to promote the "honorable and charitable ethics" of the City and State Fathers. Right; ugh! So to put the proper take on the idea of a universal health care system for the USA; I'm not sure how much would be available for the masses it was intended for after The City State and Federal Suits line their respective pockets and reciprocate for favors to other grafters. However, all in all-- understand that something is better than nothing and realizing that, I feel it would be great. Most of the public doesn't bother to enquire because they feel helpless and become complacent after going up againest the system for help and being ignored, mired in red tape untill they no longer try. And that is precisely why the Government makes the steps for aid so confusing and senseless; because they know the weak will become discouraged, hang tail and curl up and die. Then there are more residual funds for the Suits to appropriate to their own personal benefit such as raises, vacations, appointments. Here is a perfect example; The State Govenor says he is increasing taxes because the "children have right to better education" Right again--Ha! Charles Patti, a retired businessman living in Pahrump and a member of the recall committee, said the governor lied to taxpayers. Guinn's recent announcement that the state will hire 1,800 new employees shows tax increases were about bigger government, not better education, he said.
"The money was never going to the kids," he said. "He held those kids and the educational system hostage and then tried to blame it on the legislators."
Sandy Harmon, a Tonopah political consultant and spokesman for the committee, said Guinn does not understand the damage the tax increases will do to businesses in the state's rural areas.
"What seems to be a minuscule tax on others they just can't bear," he said. "They've made it impossible for anyone to open a business here." Those above facts I quoted are but a pimple on the carcass of the American Public! It goes on and on, but as I said, Yeah! bring on Universal health care for the USA we might get a bandaid or free hand sanitizer.

Social medicine has not worked in Canada or Europe. The government should make corporations pick up the cost of employees health insurance. Before the congress went to sleep and left corporations shift the burden to the people and government we did just fine. The transfer of cost has permitted health care to rage out of control. Paying outrageous amounts for prescriptions is breaking the people. Price controls should be placed with consideration for profit and research. Now companies write off research cost and still rip people off. The same goes for medical services. Hospitals overcharge for services and use the excuse of those who do not pay. When an uninsured person is treated the cost is far too high compared to the amount insurance companies are charged. It should be one charge for everyone . The machine does not know if a person has insurance or not and the cost of the materials used is the same.

Is not appropiate. This is creeping socialism and will only bankrupt the economy along with inflation and higher taxes for everybody. We will have a healthcare system like Canada's which is not good. Arnold from California wants to give healthcare to everybody even illegal aliens. Is this fair? Should taxpayers pay for illegal immigrants to get medical care? This is a democracy not communism. The Democrats are making a big mistake with this and I hope that they realize it before implementing it. I'm a fiscal conservative and I think this is horrible. In California, doctors wouldn't be paid the adequate amount for their job and some might have their wages garnished in order to contribute to the universal healthcare system. Massachusetts is also thinking of following this plan. This only expands the power of the federal government and it will prove very costly in a couple of years. I agree that our present healthcare system isn't perfect but is not bad either. We should look for other solutions, we shouldn't give everything to the government. With this plan, I assure you there will be long lines at the hospital and higher taxes.

I can imagine that our Government would do any better at this issue than they do with most things. I work on alot of Federal funded projects and these people are financially inept, every thing costs twice as much as privately funded projects. I work with several gentlemen from Canada that tell me that their system is not worth the money spent as well as it is far less effective than our private care system. In my opinion the problem with our health care system is a lack of tort reform and penalties for fraudulent law suits. Government funding of health care will mean higher taxes, slower response times to health problems and legitimate law suits will be drawn out as well as settle for pennies on the dollar (at the patients expense). It is my opinion based on what I have read, heard, talked about and looked into. I know it feels good to say the we need it but the reality is much more complicated than that, I hope people look at all the facts before they vote in this kind of disaster for the poor.

It is shameful that the US has no provisions for health care outside of relying upon the exploitive insurace companies, who's business it is to make money, greed by lawyers filing malpractice suits, paitents who file them, and docotrs who care more about making a profit than rendering good medicine have made health crae unaffordable to many. People die because of the red tape involved in afforable healthcare even with insurance. We have an obligation to provide health care for our citizens, accorss the board. Other countries do this successfully. How can we afford to spend Billions to rebuild Iraq but ignore the health of our own people is beyond me.

In answer to you. It should be made mandatory that any/all insurers take on people willing to pay for their insurance as well. A person who is self employed for example is considered an individual. An individual cannot buy insurance for their spouse as a result of this too. If a person with pre existing conditions can get insurance, it is extremely costly and not at all subsidized by the government. I do not see universal insurance working anywheres. I do feel laws need to be inacted to allow people to get insurance if they pay for it period. Millions are in the boat of no insurance due to this loophole the insurance companies are working under.

Considering we have the best health care in the world (that is to say that whenever someone needs urgent care, they come to the US). Universal health care would destroy our economy by pumping more dollars into bureaucrats instead of the economy.

If it is done right I think it will be great, if it becomes the socialized medicine that you see in other countries then we are better off the way we are now. Yeah everyone in Europe in Canada have heath care, but by the time it's their turn to receive care it's much too late.

I think it is a good idea. If someone is happy with their own HMO or insurance, let them keep it. But if they cannot afford an HMO or health insurance, then the government should provide it. In fact, I have always advocated that any US citizen should be eligible for the health care the Legislators get.
