The lack of scientific knowledge on this board scares me. The scientific community gains nothing from propetuating a hoax.
1. Real scientific work is peer reviewed and scientists love to prove that they are smarter then other scientist so they love to disprove other peoples work. Thus if a study uses bad science or bad data it is usually discredited very quickly.
2. Grant money gets spent on the work not on buying you a lavish lifestyle.
3. A hypothisis is an educated guess, a scientific law explains what happens and has not been disproven to date, a scientific theory explains how something happens and has not been disproven to date.
4. No one has yet to actually discredit the theory that humans play a major role in global warming.

Here's more strong evidence of global warming and the assertion that humankind is at the root of it. But it won't convince those who are saying it's a hoax. Absolutely nothing will convince them, because they've made up their minds, in advance, not to consider the evidence.
Where I live, 11 of the last 12 winters have been the warmest on record. That there have been bizarre weather changes over the last 20 years should be obvious to anyone who's older than 35 years old. And to shrug off those changes in the face of what the scientific community is saying about global warming... is even more bizarre.

You got to understand these are people that, blame the weather on people, like we can actually change an influence the weather .because we used right guard spray in the 70s An their such hams they ramble on for hours at universities. filling young minds with bull about how the human being is responsible for everything gone wrong with the world. basically their a bunch of bitter scientist that don't have any thing else to believe in because they don't believe in god.an they stick to a false belief know matter how many times their proven wrong. they gain money from their boring books an they gain fame for their lies, an they been proven wrong time an time again, but they keep coming back for more money, there's a sucker born ever minute an I guess the scientific communities know that.

yes it to an extent the caps are warming up but not to they extent they people doing the hoax are saying, they are just i guess trying to get us to go out and buy stuff like for y2k it awould have never happened and all the computer people just say a way to make a quick buck, by coming out w/all this stuff- i am kind of glad they are going overboard with the global warming because technology companies see this as a time to create stuff and get into it so that they get money-and possibly they will run into something good that technology has hidden from us....and i guess it is also that of making sure global warming doesn't happen.

They have Jobs that come from developing the next generation of products is the reason why . In order to sell renewable fuel you must first make the current technology look bad . This leads to change which people hate more then anything . We are a bunch of no -it -alls , who do our best not to change unless forced to . Besides the rich have not squeezed every last penny of profit from the coal plants and gasoline engines and transition is expensive and reduces their profit margin ..

believe it or not, what was to be gained was a campaign about how harmless second hand smoke was supposed to be.
here's how it worked.
tobacco companies wanted to try to 'create' some science about how second hand smoke was really harmless but thought that if they only 'studied' this one issue it would look suspect.
so they decided that they would also discredit global warming, as a sort of strategic maneuver.
bad luck for them, no one bought the second hand smoke thing, but their campaign to discredit global warming (which really does nothing for them) has taken on some validity with robber baron industrialist types who fear what actually taking care of the environment will cost them...

Good question! I think that what the deniers have to gain is obvious, though. After all, the CEOs of the major oil companies and big businesses have a lot to gain if they can convince people that they're not contributing to a problem that spells the end of the world as we know it. Also, the deniers who are the average Joes and Janes on the streets are able to rest a bit easier at night if they convince themselves that they aren't contributing to the problem and that they don't need to change their bad habits.
