In prehistoric times, men didn't understand the underlying reasons behind the seemingly odd workings of Nature.
But, Men unlike other animals had the power to think & question.
So confused & bewildered, Man started to worship the different forces of Nature as seperate icons.
In those early days, Man knew nothing about Science. But we do now - Scientific theories have solved a lot of the problems
associated with the Universe, and with time, we shall continue to discover more.
So you see beleif in God arises from a certain fear & ignorance.
It is simply illogical today to beleive in God, as Science has shown that the world tends to exist governed by a specific set of laws, breaking which is impossible.
If someone beleives in God as he\she is described in religious texts, he\she is simply ignorant and not up-to-date about recent advances in Science.
If God does exist, it will be nothing like what has been written in religious books. Because, as you have written, religious books are products of man's imagination accumulated through the centuries. They were written because man had to hold responsible someone\something for the complicated workings of the world around him.
(Beg your pardon, but you should not consider the GEETA in the same light as any other religious book. The GEETA is simply a set of morals that should be followed by all in life)

There are no answers to many questions which arrises in our mind. Like why can't we recreate the life in lab. , Why we don't have any explaination to natural events (even though we are well equiped with technology).
So, If we don't accept the existance of GOD we are unable to justify our mind. GOD is just a matter of faith.
And if you think that the books can be written, then my dear friend, even history books are written by someone then how come you be assure of that.
In Rig Veda the existance of GOD is questioned by the question that whether he himself knows how he was created or not but still it is the fact that the universe can't be created without a source.
And this source is GOD.

The Gita instructs you to meditate and experience god for yourself. It then states for one who has experienced the reality of god, that all books are no longer really necessary as they are no more than guides. You can never know something like this in any tangible sense . . . it has to be known through intuition, feeling and right-brained knowledge. Look inside yourself and see what is there, explore your mind and heart and you will come closer to god than by reading anything that anyone has written. If you feel in your heart there is no god, then that too, may be the way you come to understand the world; use your own intuitionand intelligence rather than depending on that of other people. This is the one thing that you must do for yourself.

yes God is real. the ppl who write the books do not know what they are talking about because they would have to be extremely old to configure what happened at the beginning of the earth. how do they know that some man fought off a lion how do they know that god caused a flood and only a couple ppl survived with animals? they dont, its been handed down from generation to generation so its become jumbled up. but yes God DOES exist

I tend to be a doubter but in times of great joy and great hopelessness or sorrow I've felt a wash of something like warmth and love. He exists. The bible is just a book but not all books are fiction and even most fiction has roots in truth.
Note: I'm surprised by the defensiveness in many of the answers. The question was not judgmental or critical of any ones faith. Questioning is good.

Yes God exists in everyone in the form of good deeds....
But there is no seperate soul as God(this is my personal opinion)
So a book like GEETA is a book full of moral values...
A good deed by a person will save him in one way or the other when he is in need of help.....So doing good alone will help...

Yes, god exists ... there is a specific reason behind of it.
see.. we are living in fully tecnological world... and we have scientific reasons for all acts. but still there is a kind of spiritual energy present behind all scientific act.
for eg1:... we know earth moves around the sun due to gravity and crntral(or normal) force. but why these force is taking place?not only earth but the whole universe is based up on this principle only.
eg2: we know the physiology of our body but why sincronization between body organs takeplace?
If you think both of these questions, you may understand that god exists. science can be applied to certain extent and god is everywhere (if you believe).

God's word is never incorrect and yes he does (he being in a non-gender sense). God is the original Author of the holy writings...he used ordinary men to write his thoughts down...2 Timothy 3:16,17 "all scriptures inspired of God & benefical for teaching, for reproving, for setting things straight"...you can read the rest for yourself. The beautiful creations we see on this planet (different species of trees, animals, planets, etc...) is evidence enough to prove that there is a very intelligent person behind these designs.
